Sale of 100% Hand-stitched Sophistic Chinese Embroidery清明上河图

District New Territories

Price: :6000 HKD

Price reduced to $6,000 for quick sale. Or you can let me have your best offer.

Downsizing and therefore selling a master piece of Chinese hand-stitched embroidery, ALONG THE RIVER DURING THE CHING MING FESTIVAL (known in Chinese as 《清明上河图》) which was made over 10 years ago.Professionally framed in solid black wood with a gold trim, it measures 18 inches by 63 inches. A similar piece of a LOWER quality and a few inches shorter both sides is now selling at Yue Hwa Chinese Emporium above Jordan MTR Station for $15500. Please have a look there. I am now putting this up for sale at less than half of that price, $7500.

This is not a painting! This is not a tapestry! This is a piece of 100% silk handmade embroidery work made upon part of the ALONG THE RIVER DURING THE CHING MING FESTIVAL original painting (known in Chinese as 《清明上河图》) now stored in the Palace Museum in the Forbidden City of Beijing. The painting is considered to be the most renowned work among all Chinese paintings, and it has been called "China's Mona Lisa." The original painting was the work of Song Dynasty artist, Zhang Zeduan. The painting captures the daily life of people from the Song period at the capital, Pien Jing (today's Kaifeng). The theme celebrates Ching Ming Festival (Qingming Festival). The entire piece was painted in hand scroll format and the content reveals the lifestyle of all stratum of the society (from rich to poor) as well as different economic activities in rural areas and the city. It offers glimpse of the customs and architecture during the period.

An electronic version of it was showcased at Grand Hall of the Chinese Pavilion of Shanghai Expo. in 2010 and later at the Exhibition Centre of HK attracting tens of millions of visitors demonstrating its importance and popularity in the eyes of the Chinese.

Chinese embroidery refers to embroidery created by any of the cultures located in the area that makes up modern China. It is some of the oldest extant needlework. The four major regional styles of Chinese embroidery are Suzhou embroidery (Su Xiu), Hunan embroidery (Xiang Xiu), Guangdong embroidery (Yue Xiu) and Sichuan embroidery (Shu Xiu). All of them are nominated as Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage. Chinese embroidery has a long history since Neolithic age. Because of the quality of silk fiber, most Chinese fine embroideries are made in silk. Some ancient vestiges of silk production have been found in various Neolithic sites dating back 5,000-6,000 years in China. Currently the earliest real sample of silk embroidery discovered in China is from a tomb in Mashan in Hubei province identified with the Zhanguo period (5th-3rd centuries BC). After the opening of Silk Route in Han Dynasty, the silk production and trade became flourishing. In 14th century, the Chinese silk embroidery production reached its high peak. Several major silk embroidery styles had been developed, like Song Jin (Song embroidery) in Suzhou, Yun Jin (Cloud embroidery) in Nanjing and Shu Jin (Shu embroidery) in Sichuan. Today most handwork had been replaced by machinery, but some very sophisticated production are still hand-made. The modern Chinese silk embroidery still prevails in southern China.

Portraits- Daoguang Emperor and Empress

Price: :12000 HKD

Price reduced to $12,000 for quick sale. Or you can let me have your best offer.

For sale is a pair of large silk paintings in ink and color depicting imperial portraits of Daoguang Emperor and his Empress of the Qing Dynasty of China. Both portraits are of the same size and the frames measure 43 inches long and 27 inches wide and are custom-made in HK. I am selling them as a pair for $15,000, many times lower than market price.

The Daoguang Emperor, born in 1782, was the eighth emperor of the Qing Dynasty and the sixth Qing emperor to rule over China from 1820 to 1850. He was infamous for losing the First Opium War against the British and was forced to surrender Hong Kong at the Treaty of Nanking in August, 1842. Henceforth, Daoguang became the first emperor of the Qing Dynasty to have lost a portion of its sovereign territories.

The two portrait silk paintings I am selling were bought from the China National Museum of Fine Arts in Beijing in 1999 and came with a certificate of origin. The portraits were drawn by an anonymous artist in Beijing. Given their origin and the recent interest in the Emperor, they certainly worth much more than what I am asking as demonstrated in the auction result from New York last year as detailed below.

Renowned international auction house Bonhams has reported its official sales results from the various Asian departments at its New York salesroom, during the March 17 2014 sale at Asia Week. The Scholar’s Studio sale in the Chinese Art section yielded one of the top performing lots — an informal portrait of the Daoguang Emperor (1782—1850) in ink and color on silk dating from the early 19th century. The painting fetched US$389,000, more than seven times the pre-sale estimate. A somewhat similar portrait depicting the same Emperor in his study can be found in the collection of the Palace Museum in Beijing.

So, you can see that Daoguang Emperor portrait in ink and color on silk does command a good price in the market. My sale includes a portrait of his Empress and is even more difficult to find. If you like to view these two excellent paintings before making a purchase decision, please call/whatsapp me at 67079653. Thanks for viewing
