International Adpotion
Posted by Samesituation (1547 days ago)
We are a British couple, currently living in HK, who would be interested in international adoption (HK, India,South America). I wanted to find out if anybody else in HK has done this. If so, I would be very interested in finding out about the process.

Hi,
We just completed the adoption of our little boy here in HK six months ago. It is the best thing we have ever done! We could not be more in love. The process here is very simple and the Social Welfare Department are very efficient, organized and professional. If you prefer to adopt internationally you should contact International Social Services in Hong Kong (www.isshk.org/eng/index.htm) they are one of the few agencies that can help you with that here. However I found international adoption is quite challenging when you are living away from your home country, not to say it's impossible just much more difficult than anything you will encounter locally. The ISS can tell you what is required, there are many rules governing it. Let me know if you need any further information. Good luck.

if you have been in HK for 18 months, you are eligible to adopt within HK...it costs about $250US...my firends put their paper work in at the end of jan 2005, had everything completed and had their boy at home by father's day...

Hi there
My wife and I adopted our daughter here 15 months ago and could not be happier with the way things have turned out. We have a bright and beautiful wee girl and the people at Social Welfare here in HK were great, particularly our case worker. I would thoroughly recommend adopting locally as everything is done legally and ethically. You don't need to pay expensive agents' fees and you can easily visit your prospective son or daughter. If you would like to talk about it feel welcome to get in touch.

Things are changing. More girls are available now as most of the new borns are girls. But you are right. We locals in Hong Kong prefer girls to boys. We got a girl too.

great news... although, i'm sure it would be wonderful news whether you got a girl or a boy!
my friends were told that the majority of children available in HK are boys though...
