Jack Russell or Fox Terriers ?

Are there many Jack Russells in HK? I would love to have one again but I don't see many around.

Do they ever turn up for re-homing or are there breeders? Is there a JR owners club here?

Any info would be appreciated, Thanks.

You'll find them. They aren't as abundant as pugs and toy poodles, but there are out there and once in a while pop up at the adoption galleries of the various charities. Foxies more frequently than JRs.

Stay well clear of HK pet shops and "breeders", a) generally because it's puppy mill trade and b) because of that you'll spend your $$$ on a dog that will quite look like a JR or Fox but probably isn't. I personally know of a Schnauzer-ish mongrel girl that was used by such a breeder used to produce "purebred Miniature Schnauzers" ...

here's a Fox for adoption at SPCA:

here's a JR for adoption at Hongkong Dog Rescue

other dog rescue charities are:

Get in contact and let them know what you're looking for, and they'll call you when they've got one for you to adopt - it took us only 2 weeks to find a young Mini Schnauzer boy this way.

all the best (and I hope you know what you're getting yourself into with a mega high energy JR)

and finally, I'll quote the user Pumpkin Girl:

"I appreciate you treasured your (JR) but there are so many dogs in HK facing death if they don't find a home. Hong Kong Originals (Mongrels) and breeds. Please give them a chance, you will find a wonderful companion to share your life with. Don't discount the HK originals - you'll get a dog as unique and wonderful as you are."

Hi I have a JRT I love to bits. They are the smartest and funniest dogs! Since they are so active and mischievous, they get given up a lot.

Unless you intend to be at home and have a very active lifestyle, a JR is a very inappropriate dog. They are originally hunting dogs and need a lot of exercise.

Apologies if this is already known to you.

They have a boy at HK Dog Rescue now. Take a look at page 20 on their webpage. He needs an experienced JR owner - you may be the one!

They also happen to have a fox terrier at the SPCA right now. You can see a picture on their website too.
