I wonder why so many ads that appear on Free Stuff do actually ask to make an offer or list a purchase price for the item. If the ads are really pre-approved, then does this mean it is ok? Personally I would feel those ads should be placed in Sales categories, and some obviously intentional repeat offenders could even be banned for a while.
One rather irritating ad lately has been the repeat one under Free Stuff:
"We have the following SAT books to dispose of :
Make my daughter an offer she can't refuse.
And for those people whose eyes have glazed over - this means that they are NOT being given away for free. And TROLLS should note - others put a price on items here too!!
These were expensive books :
Kaplan - SAT Lesson Book...etc
If YOU want them - they HAVE to be collected from near HKU in Western - YOU carry them away... "
Why not to post it under books and Magazines? Why to insult the people who may have a real need to search for some free items? Arrogant and misplaced - or is it just me. I have no interest to those books, but the choice of words bugs me.
It is just funny how some advertise a 'free' desk and hobby tools and it turns out to be asking 1200 for desk and 800 for tools :-). Or people asking for 'exchange', and when contacted to offer exchange to furniture or other items they say they meant exchange for money...
And on another point, the advertisers to give away free items might want to ask if the recipient needs it for own use - if it matters. Obviously there are some people that have noticed a way to make business to receive free items and sell them, and are fast to reply any new ads.
I gave away free twin stroller and baby clothes only to be offered the stroller back to buy in a few weeks by a member that sold me a wardrobe that she said used to be her son's (but made mistake in listing all parts to be included in the package, while at delivery it turned to be without a door or rail). The wardrobe looked similar to one that had been offered for free just days before. So small is HK.
But then to many people it might not matter as long as they get rid of their unwanted items. Need for money is a need too. But if you wish to give your items for the reasons of charity for someone who has use and genuine need for them, then at least you might want to ask - and the dealer might need to lie ;-)
