Another termination question

Posted by bloomingsunflower (323 days ago)
Dear all,
as in my previous thread abt negligience of duties by my helper and sheer wastage, here is an update.
i decided to terminate her.I know it would be a huge problem for me, but I couldnt stand the feeling of she cheating me in my own house. So thought abt it carefully and then spoke to her. I repeatedly ask for reason for her doing, but just got no answer. a long silence..and a blank face..so i decided to put an end to this and told her that i would want to discontinue her services. Needless to say am feeling at peace to end this saga...
What are the things I should be careful about now, when she will be here for a month( notice period)..I understand the salary and return ticket thing..do i have to inform the immigration when I give her the notice?
Any other tip? She has taken a huge loan from somebody and the man from the company keeps calling on my land line, chasing her ( she gave my number without even informing me, she says it's not her loan but her aunt's and she gave the guarntee...now the aunt refuses to pay and I get n phone calls every day)what do I do with that?
Also she had installed her idd on my landline, without my knowledge, how shld I make sure that she has no dues. If I call the phone company they wont devulge the detail of her phone bills... what do i do?
Thanks for the help

You are required to inform Immigration in writing within 7 days of the effective date of the termination.
The loan situation is fairly common. Initially I was amazed at the number of cases where the prime lender simply reneged on payments and didn't care how much pain it caused to the guarantor who was either a relative or a friend. Such is the lure of the dollar (itself probably requested/demanded by family back home) that personal relationships are used to advantage and then abused when it suits. With the phone calls they require a landline else the borrower/guarantor would simply change the mobile phone as soon as they have given the number. Unfortunately it's also your number, but that's unavoidable unless you had an extra landline for her personal use. When she has gone you should tell the caller at the first opportunity that the helper no longer works for you, and you will inform the police if they continue to call you. It would be helpful if you got the details of the people calling from your helper (she will know the identity of the lender if not the heavies who are doing the calling) as this will also be of help to the police if the calls persist.
And with your IDD issue you could contact the telephone company and tell them to remove IDD access (after all, you are the one whose name is on the contract and they shouldn't have made any changes without your knowledge), although I'm not clear what exactly has happened here. Sorry.
If you are worried about what the helper might do over the next month then you should consider letting her go immediately (with payment in lieu) although that might cause other problems for you. Good luck.
One other thing. When you are interviewing for the replacement use some of these experiences as examples of what will not be tolerated. You might scare some off with your tough stance, but at least you will have laid down the groundrules. Of course you might also end up with someone who agreed to the rules simply to get the job and then turns out exactly the same.

If you don't trust her to be in your house when she is secure in a job, how can you trust her to be there when she know she is being fired? You may want to make sure all your valuables are removed from your house for the next month and nothing that could be 'taken' is available.

Unfortunately, I am afraid Saikunga is right. You need to be careful over the next month.
Check your private message box. I am sending you the name of a helper listed here on AsiaXpat who I've personally interviewed and thought was pretty good. Of course, you are free to think otherwise, but she was defiintely in the top tier of the many helpers I've interviewed in the past month.

Dear tsuiwah
Can you please pm me the details too? Thanks

scottsue,
It would be better for you to send a PM to tsuiwah in case he/she doesn't happen to come back to this thread. At least by send ing a PM he/she will see your message regardless. (And by that same reckoning you will only see this one if you also happen to come back here...I should practise what I preach and send you a PM myself!)
bloomingsunflower,
Apologies if you have selected the 'Notify me when...' option because you will be getting all these notifications re messages that are naught to do with you.
