Xmas bonus

My helper has a salary of 3,600 and I just raised it to 4000 after 1 yr of service...within the year, I have given her bonuses that equal 4,500 for her birthday/CNY/extra. How much is reasonable to give her for Xmas...1000? How do most of you handle bonuses? Would love some perspective.

People vary a lot on this. Go with what feels right for you and what you think your helper deserves. You are giving over a month's salary at CNY, which I think is generous. We do extra month at Christmas and give a much smaller amount at CNY.

we do $500(+small gifts) at Christmas and $500 at CNY and also for her birthday.

For my Indonesian Muslim helper who has been with me for several yrs- presents during Xmas and about 2 mths pay for her home trip, so that she can celebrate with her family, but the amount is not specified or will be similar for each cycle.

It all depends on what works for you and also based on her performance.
