Maid room
Posted by bobius (297 days ago)
I am planning to get a helper for the first time.
The flat I am moving into has a maid room but is quite small. Due to the small installed fridge in the kitchen I would like to buy an additional fridge which I plan to place in the maid's room. My question is would this be ok? Would I be breaking any laws by doing this? The problem is besides the maid's room I have no idle space where I could put the fridge. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

we put our second fridge in the dining room... not the nicest of choices, but with the sorry state of helpers' rooms... i didn't feel it was proper to encroach any more, not to mention, the loss of privacy she would face...
don't know if it is illegal or not though, sorry!

I doubt it's illegal but i don't believe it's right, how would you feel about a fridge in your bedroom and the maid going in and out to get things plus the noise most fridges make. I would try and find another soloution maybe try and manage without a second fridge if you can.

It is legal and happens often when apartments are so small. Why not speak with yr helper and find out if it would be ok for you to do that and perhaps tell her that you will not access the fridge when she is using her room - if she agrees go ahead and if not u should find an alternative.

why not buy a smaller bar type fridge to put in yr kitchen, or place kitchen outside on balcony, outside door etc?

in my experience, helper's rooms are extraordinarily small and don't give much excess room. while it may be legal to place a fridge in the room, it would also be noisy, inconvenient and uncomfortable for the helper. there should be other alternatives you could try exploring. there are different sizes of fridges as well. martha has suggested some good alternatives.
good luck.

Would you honestly expect someone to sleep next to a full size fridge in a tiny room? Have you considered the noise and heat it would generate? Please put the health, privacy and well being of someone living under your roof ahead of your need to hide a large electrical appliance!!!

It's not conducive for the helper to sleep with a humming fridge(even a new fridge humms). Since you are buying a fridge, why not replace it with a bigger one and ask the landlord to remove the smaller one?
