Visiting UK

Hi, I have just hired a DH for a couple of months. My job requires me to travel to and fro to the UK quite a bit, and I am thinking of taking my DH on several of my trips back to the UK, where we will stay for no longer than a month at a time. Do we need to apply for a special visa for the DH to travel with me and enter UK soil? Or does she just get a visitor's chop each time?

Do check with immigration, however, I doubt you will get a visa for your DH to travel to the UK unless she/he has been working for you for at least two years. This was introduced after too many of them ran away when they arrived on UK soil.

She will be a tourist just like any other short-term visitor to the UK and will need to apply each time. However, if you are thinking about her working for you during those visits then the rules are different. I suggest you do a search on this forum for more detailed info as the question has been asked many times in the past.

She will need a sponsor in the UK before she is given a visitor visa in the UK unlikely that sponsor can be u - So much more difficult these days.

Yes, you do need to have your helper been with you for more than a few months. last time I checked was a minimum of one year (yes, due to too many run away while they are there). My friend's helper worked for her for six years. She asked for the long service payment and ran away. Left her with two babies to deal with. by the way, her house in UK was flooded at that time.

according to the immigration, you cannot take your DH to work for you outside of HK because your helper does not have the working visa in the respective country. However, you may take your DH on holiday, You know "holiday"

Your helper needs to be with you for at least a year for a domestic helper visa to UK.
Many helpers run away that's why the requirements are one year.

If you need help in UK you could consider getting an au pair whilst there, its cheaper then paying for the extortionate visa cost and flights.

I am thinking about taking a DH to UK myself but that is when we move there permanently. Does anyone know the law and monthly pay for the helper I'll have to pay? I have heard you don't need to send them back every year to the PHillipines and she will live in our house in London. Has anyone had any experience with that?

You will have to pay the minimum wage for UK and there are maximum hours etc

The National Minimum Wage has increased again from October 2007
The minimum wage is a legal right, which covers almost all workers above compulsory school leaving age. There are different minimum wage rates for different groups of workers as follows:

The main rate for workers aged 22 and over increased on 1 October 2007 to £5.52 an hour from £5.35 an hour
The development rate for 18-21 year olds increased to £4.60 an hour from £4.45 an hour

On 1 October 2007 the rate of the accommodation offset increased to £30.10 per week (£4.30 per day) from £29.05 per week (£4.15 per day)
It is important to note that these new rates only apply to pay reference periods beginning on or after the date they came into law.

Basically one months salary for a 50 hour week would be English Pounds 983.60 which is roughly HK$15.110 which includes taking of the allowance you can deduct for lodgings.
