Part time DH's and pets

Hi,

I'm currently looking for a part-time DH to help with general tasks as well as to look after my dog.

I've only really had helpers come and go at the weekends usually and never to look after my dog, but due to work demands I just need added help right now.

My concern is that, as I am not hiring a full-time maid with no contract etc, I understand that my dog could effectively "go missing" and there wouldn't be anything that I could do about it; or I could end up with the lazy type who hands me back a badly looked after dog.

In fact, when it comes to part-time helpers is there anything I can do to protect myself? Can you only sign a contract with full-time helpers? I am not sure how it works.
Any advice? Thanks.

The 'only full-time and live-in' rule applies to foreign domestic helpers. If you want to employ a part-time helper legally then you can - but it must be a person with PR status. If you want to go down that path then there are a couple of options that pop up frequently - the notice board at your local supermarket (but you'll need to check the status because there are many FDHs here who look for PT work illegally) or the database maintained by the Labour Dept. You can inspect the database online, but I think it's in Chinese.

Hi, thanks for that GreenValleys.
What is the going rate for part-time help? Also is it better to go through an agency to secure myself against any damage, loss of pets, no-shows etc.

Would appreciate any advice.
