Messed up - Levy Payment
Posted by MumBee (223 days ago)
I cannot believe I did this, but somehow I forgot to make a levy payment for my DH. I am 3 months late with the payment, and just sent off an apology letter and the cheque.
Does anyone know what/if any the repercussions are for making a late levy payment?
Thanks.

Gosh I always forget too, but they normally send a reminder and thats when I pay it!!! I am really surprised that you have not heard from them so hopefully they will just accept the cheque and do nothing!

Don't know the answer off-hand (my husband has our hard copy of the document that has the answer in his office) but the details are available on the Immigration Dept website. I think technically they can demand the rest of the levy up to the end of the 2-year contract period, but as per the above response they usually send a reminder first.

We had a final reminder last week! It says clearly on the back that - they change the right to pay by installments to the full 2 year amount and chase you for the full debt.

I also always forget, and just pay when they send the (final) reminder too.

the first time my helper came, I gave her a copy of the levy payments, then I asked her to remind me and I always ask her to go pay, in that case I never forget.
if you are late with the payment I think immig will ask you to pay the full 2 years levy.

abby78,
If that's working for you now then that's good. However, I don't think you should be depending on your helper to remind you of your financial/legal obligations - could be a bit risky.

its a legal obligation I know, but I also want her to know that while she is working for me, I pay for her levy tax, a money which is deducted from her suppose to be HK$3670 salary.
