Termination
Posted by stilllost (209 days ago)
We may need to terminate our helpers (girlfriend and her boyfriend) simply because it is not working out having him in the house - he is lazy and spends most of the day in bed, doesn't do what we ask him to and she has taken to lying to cover up for him, so I feel I can no longer trust her.
I am sad about this as I have always liked her but I don't think we can keep her on after dismissing her boyfriend.
I would like to be as nice as possible about this and help them to get another job but I do need to get them out of our house on the day I dismiss them.
Does anyone know if I can legally put them up in a boarding house for a month while they interview for other jobs before going home to the Philippines?

Why not ask for a meeting to be honest that you are not happy how the boyfriend works? And this means you are giving him a chance to change, if you talked to them and he never changed his work attitude, then that is the time to do something else.

There is no need for you to pay for the boarding house costs. Once they leave, then they are no longer your responsibility. However there's nothing stopping you from paying the cost - you could just give extra money for the termination pay.
If terminated, they can stay in HK for two weeks, not one month.

If (a) the boyfriend is lazy and (b) the girlfriend is a liar, why would you care about helping them find another job? Frankly, once you terminate them, they will have a hard time finding a job whether they have two weeks or four weeks. If they broke and abused your trust, they don't deserve your sympathy. Next time, don't hire a couple.
