We are facing the same thing at the moment. The immigration dept states that you cannot renew the visa until 4 weeks before the current visa expires and I have no idea whether you can apply to process earlier. The Philippine consulate, however, is happy to hold the paperwork for as long as necessary. Our helper is also going home while we are away so will submit the paperwork to the consulate tomorrow and pick it up in mid-August when she returns to HK. Then she just goes to the immigration dept the next day and gets the visa processed on the same day. Doing it this way does require that we had to tick the "Entry visa and extension of stay" box which means she will need to return to the Philippines for a holiday sometime within the next year, regardless of the fact she will have just returned from a 6 week holiday! Would be interested to hear if you did manage to get the immigration dept to process your DH's visa before the final 4 weeks of her contract.
