DH insurance - is there one better than HSBC
Posted by maz27 (72 days ago)
I have DH insurance with HSBC but its quite basic. Does anyone have insurance with another company that would cover her medical expenses? I hope she will never have to seek hospital care but if so, I like her to be able to go privately.
Appreciate any help.

The HSBC has many kinds of insurance to offer, they also have medical insurance for I think 140/month and accident insurance for 60/month.
However, the public hospital in Hk is not bad at all. If you have HK I.D.For 100 dollars or less, you can have the doctor's consulation plus the medicine, but you have to wait depending how many patients are still waiting. I always go to Public Hospital, I paid about HK45, and I can get my high blood pressure medicine free for 2 months. If I buy the medicine per month, it will cost me 400/month. So I go to the hospital every two months for check up and medicine. I can also go there by appointment or just walk in after 6 pm.
If you have emergency problem, the patients can get immediate attention.

beancurd,
I agree most public hospitals in HK are quite good but how did you manage just to pay HK$45? Shouldn't it be at least HK$60? And $10 per medicine.

HK$45 including the two month's supply of medicine is an unbelievable deal. And also just walk in after 6PM without an appointment! Which hospital could it be?

I go to Battery street, RHJC Clinic, in Jordan. I have a medical record book to show because I regularly come for check up and
Few years ago, I went to Queen Elizabeth for outpatient department and the doctor referred me to this clinic in Jordan. So, I just go there every 2 months. Even my problem is not related to my high blood pressure, I go there after 6 pm.
And I pay HK$45. and I can get the medicine free of charge.
Up to now, I always go there for check up and for high blood pressure medicine.
The doctor will not give me an appointment date if I want to come after 6 pm.
But everybody can walk in if you have time to go in the afternoon. They have day time and evening consultation.
But even if it is free of charge, I would rather not have a high blood pressure. LOL!!

thanks everyone for your replies. I know my DH can use the public hospital but as I have young children and work, it would be much more convenient if she could use a doctor nearby.

Please be noted that here are many public hospitals everywhere

I use manulife and i only pay 1,000+(covered 2 years) inclusive of the outpatient consultations (private doctors). They have a pool of doctors (various places in HK) and all she need is to bring her card so she does not need to pay doctors and then re-imburse later.
I used blue cross previously, but w them you pay first doctors then claim reimbursements later.
Hope this helped.
