Terminate current helper - need new helper with nursing background
Posted by madchelsea (67 days ago)
Hello, I am thinking about terminating my current helper after 7 months who is a wonderful -extremely time efficient, can follow recipes, and cleans well. She is pleasant and treats my three children very well. All my three kids adore her. Unfortunately, my eldest son who is 5 1/2 years old has OT and medical issues and we feel he would fare better with a helper that has a nursing degree or an education background. We respect our helper very much and are planning to ask her to find another family that is right for her at her convenience.
My questions are: Once she finds a new family, is it better that she resigns or I terminate?
Will she have to go back to the Philippines (Macau) and for how long?
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

"Will she have to go back to the Philippines (Macau) and for how long? "
She will need to leave HK at least for a couple of weeks.
BTW have you considered sending her to a First Aid certificate class? The HK Red Cross has a 30 hour course (10 x 3 hours) that runs on Saturday nights. Of course I don't know if this is enough to help care for your son.

A good helper does not come by easily and since you claimed that your current DH is so wonderful, you should re-consider your decision to terminate her and maybe as axptguy suggests, send her for training or better still teach her yourself. She has settled nicely in your family with good work & the kids adore her, that's a plus already but frankly, you should have thought of the problem of your eldest son before you hired someone with no knowledge of nursing.
As to the DH, it doesn't matter either ways as she has to go back to her country to wait for the results as the contract is broken but one thing you can do is to give a very good reference letter and requests her future employer to call you and you can put in a good word for her.
You may find a DH with good nursing background but not necessarily fit in your household - just a thought!!

Hope you find a solution to your problem - you seemed to be quite concerned about your DH (by terminating her she will miss out at least 3 months' pay before her next new contract assuming she finds one) - tell us what you have decided.

If you terminate her or she resigns, even she found new employer, she has to go back to Phils to wait her visa for new employment.

Ideally since u have an issue u should terminate her so that she can tell the truth to the new employer. However if she resigns it would not show well for her as she would be leaving u under such circumstances.
