Discovery Bay Playgroups
Posted by Elouise2 (416 days ago)
What playgroups / kindergartens / schools are on Discovery Bay??? What age do they cater for?
Find what you are after in our Hong Kong A-Z Directory

there are dozens of playgroups depending on what you are looking for. and each caters to different ages. they are offered in english, french, mandarin, cantonese and possibly spanish(not sure on this one). there are some that are in commercial spaces and others that are in flats that are dedicated spaces for the playgroups. some are attached to the various churches.

Hi We are moving to Db at the end of the month. I have 2 boys. Ones a toddler and the other one is 11 months. We got the free db mag but there was not much on playgroups and all looked for 18mth - 2.5 year olds. How else can I find out about playgroups where I can take both boys with me as I don't have a helper? Are all the playgroups structured?

there isn't much for under 1.5 years. there are many groups where mothers just get together at the park or in someone's home.
it's fairly difficult to take both children to a playgroup, unless it is like what i just mentioned. if it is a structured playgroup (kind of like kidergarten), then it will be impossible for you to take both kids.

Thanks cara. How do I go about find out the grps based at home are they advertised or is it word by mouth, or is it just a group of friends getting together for coffee at someones house?

great to read your replies, as i too will be new to db in 3 weeks, and have a 21 month yr old son with alot of energy! i went to the db info centre and got the list of playgroups, have contacted a couple but they seem to be extremely rigorous with rules and regulations and are quite expensive. i like the idea of meeting other mums and would be more than happy to host occasionally at mine. i will contact this forum in a couple of weeks and hope to organise something, otherwise if anyone wants to contact me, more than welcome. cheers

ps, do drop-in playgroups not exist anywhere at all?
and if you do sign up for a registered playgroup, can u just take cour child(ren) 2 or 3 mornings a week when u like?

rents are VERY expensive in HK and i dont' know of any playgroups that you pay for that allow drop ins. they need to know that their rent is paid, so they only offer per month or sometimes per term.

Hi there,
We just moved to DB 10 days ago and I only know a couple of people through my husband. Our little girl is 7 weeks old (today in fact) - would it possible to meet up with anyone else here from DB?
Posted by cara (403 days ago)
you're welcome to come round on Friday to mine, if you like. most of the babies are a little bit older though.
just send me a PM if you are interested.

Hi, I have an 11 week old girl (as well as a 3 yr old boy). Gabriella, I just sent you a personal msg, I'd be glad to get together for a chat or some coffee if you are interested.

I know this summer will be a long one, before the playgroups 'officially' start in september, and I have a very energetic 22 month old to entertain without the help of a DH. I am trying my best but as we've only just got here, we are still slowly learning the ropes and meeting other mums.
I would be very happy to host occasionally, if other mums fancy making a regular meeting and getting their little ones together. There's no point 'meeting for coffee' at a cafe as my little one never sits still, better off meeting in a park or at a playground area if people prefer.
If anyone fancies it, please send me a PM or post a reply... Hope to hear off you soon! :)
