Tung Chung Kids
Posted by PG tips (411 days ago)
Hello mummies and daddies!
Im thinking of starting a playgroup in Tung Chung, Fun and Social being the theme.
I'm wondering whether people would be interested in meeting to discuss what will be good for their little ones. Maybe we could meet for coffee and a chat at Pacific Coffee in City Gate?
Look forward to your replies
Thanks!

Hi,
I am interested, depending on what age of children. I have a 23 month old and live in CC.

Hi Jassy,
Well, from my experience, children are best to work in the age band of (approximately) 'under 2's', '2 - 4' '4 - 6' and 6 plus. However, this is much debated, since according to the widely aclaimed Montessori method, children should work together no matter what age. The theory is that the young ones will see and replicate the older kids, in terms of their actions, behaviour, manner etc... This point will be your childs first independant social and hierarchal interaction!
Well..back to your question...and to be honest, you are the 1st to reply, thus we really have to round up more kiddies for it to be productive.
So, if any others are interested then we can progress onto the next stage!
Thanks,
PG Tips.

Hi PG,
Yes, I understand and agree with you. Just if it was only young babies or over 5 year olds, it is not as easy for the children to understand the difference.

(EDITED)
Hi all,
Sorry for the delayed replies!
Right, we now have the following people interested:
MsCheerful - 4 mnths
MsCheerful's friend - 9mnths (Early July)
Caroline's boy - 14mnths
Jassy - 2yr old
Yogini - 2yr old
Caroline's girl - 3.5 yr old
Sunita -7 yr old
-8 yr old
Thats good, but we need some more children to bridge the gap. Also, Sunita, ideally, we need some primary children for your girls since it is better for their social development to hang out with children of their level or even slightly older.
But at least we are moving somewhere!
So anymore Tung Chung mummies and kiddies interested, pop your names down with the age of your little one.
Oh...one more thing, I'm having all my childrens book shipped over from UK mid June so we will have plenty of quality reading material / story times!
Cheers.

Hello PG,
My name is Caroline and I would love to join too. We are in CC. My daughter is 3.5y and my son is 14 months. Isabelle will go to school full time from August.
Posted by PG tips (402 days ago)
Hi Caroline, your name is down on the list...See above.
OK, we are getting there! I think 4 kids should be the minimum in a group for it to work, so a few more!
I think everything should be ready early July so that should be a good time for us to meet for a chat and coffee. It will be great to hear what everyone has to say.
So, I will keep everyone posted and will confirm the date as soon as I can...but for the mean time...early July.

Hi PG,
I'm mscheerful's friend. I'm free anytime to meet up. My baby is 9 months old by July.
Are you putting up a paid playgroup? or just an informal one? I read that there are only 3 kindergaten in tung chung - pls correct me if i'm wrong, we're just moving there next month. I called up Sunshine and they only accept from 1 year old. My baby has been attending several "schools" in hk island, so i'm a bit concern if there is no playgroup in the area. Glad to hear that you're putting up one. Keep us posted.

Hi Boss, (good name!)
I think you are correct, I know of 3 schools: Sunshine, Island, Greenfield. But as you said, they dont really cater for your age.
The playgroup, I'm trying to set up will be a paid one...since I have to cover my costs...mainly rent! But...it shouldn't be that much. I'm a bit busy today, but I will back tonight.
Thanks

Hi PG,
You mention that you need to mainly cover rent - will you run it from your home or a commercial setting?
I guess I am trying to work out if you are a registered business, trying to get a group together or if you have children yourself and want to set something up. Two very different concepts.
Also...if this is commercial, do you have any teaching background?
I just read it all with great interest, as I am in Discovery Bay and have considered doing this myself.
I hadn't considered getting paying clients from a website, but I guess it is a good way to do market research and get potential clients.

Hi good golly,
It will not be run from home, it will be in an approximately 700Sq Ft apartment - Seaview Crescent...therefore, rent should be less than that of CityGate.
Now, for the question of teaching experience, I have taught both Playgroup children, Primary and Secondary children.
With regards to playgroup, I supervised all playgroup activities & programs in an educational center on Hong Kong Island. I have experience in teaching children as young as 8 months in the Playgroup. I use predominantly Maria Montessori methods to develop greater child autonomous thinking and I always try and develop child independence as early as possible.
For the young ones, I think the aim would be to keep it fun and social and in turn developing everyday skills such as gross motor skills, habits & manners, i.e. stuff that the child can use at home. Children learn through repetition and seeing/singing stuff they know reassures them and raises their self-confidence. So routine, songs, nursery rhymes are an excellent way of learning.
With resources, I have lots of great colourful children's books plus I have lots and lots of toys, crayons, wax, music, etc.
So...I hope I have answered some of your questions, but feel free to ask if you still have any more queries.
Thanks :)

Hi PG tips,
Count me in....as long as it's a registered business and your price doesn't cost a fortune.

There is a playgroup in Tsing Yi, only 2 minutes from the MTR by taxi. Please PM me and I'd be happy to pass on more information. It takes children (with an accompanying adult) from 10 months and up.
