Film Legend Charlton Heston has died. why not "has dead", isnt it a present particple should be used after "has'?

dead is an adjective not a verb. die is the verb.

Nonsense!! There is no such thing as a present participle! In the present perfect it is has/have + past participle so has died is correct.

To simplify it a bit, you can say he: -is dead, -has died, or -died If you're confised try substituting other verbs. is eating, has eaten, ate is running, has run, ran is sitting, has sat, sat etc.

he is dead. is the same as.... he is happy. dead is an adjective NOT a verb.
yup, exactly cara, I was trying to expand on your 1st post. :P if one wonders whether a word is a verb, adjective, etc, one can try substituting in other words from that catagory and if it works then it can help to clarify.
