NURSERY/KINDERGARDEN
Posted by Giggi (926 days ago)
Dear Every body,
First of all a very happy new year to all of you!
I have 16 months old baby and I have been sending her to the woodland wriglers class since over a month. I noticed it's not enough for her, she wants to stay and play more. She is an only child for tthe time being so she gets a bit bored at times. I was wondering if there is any sort of playgroup/nursery/kindergarden I can send her to for a more days a week!
Please advice, by the way we live in Pok Fu Lam
Thanks

I've had our daughter in Music Together and at Highgate House School parent/child class since she was the age of your daughter. They were perfect for her. She's grown to be a very settled, happy, inquisitive little girl and I think Highgate House has had a lot to do with that. I found the parent/child class as helpful for her as for me, I've grown a lot as a parent there.
By the way, I don't think little ones need loads of stimulation and lots of classes--they do need lots of time to explore and experiment in safe surroundings, though.

Hi mythoughts, how is the highgate parent/child class structured and what sort of activities does it include. I have an 18 month old and I want to start her with a playgroup/class. thanks.
Giggi, did your baby go to the woodland class in pok fu lam? I've read about it on the website and have been meaning to get more info from other moms...I live in south horizons. can you share with me what the class is like? thanks.

Hi April--
Highgate Parent/Child class is twice a week, 90 minutes a class. The classrooms are beautiful, high ceilings, lots of natural light, soft colors, and the toys and puzzles are all wooden and natural. The outdoor area is large, with slides and plants to water and bunnies to feed and a huge sandbox to play in.
The classes begin with free play, then tidying up, then a circle time (songs and rhymes), then a healthy snack, then outdoor time and then a short story and goodby song.
The school is a Steiner Waldorf school, so it makes sense at some point to find out what makes Steiner Waldorf different (and and so nice) in these early years. The environment is very nuturing and the classes are designed to encourage imagination and creativity. I'm always thinking that Highgate is such a nice way to grow up, and a nice introduction to "school" and being on their own when they're ready.
There's always a waiting list for the morning classes, so get your name down if you're even thinking about it :-)

My thoughts,
That sounds great, way different from Woodland in Pok Fu Lam. Where is this located?? Do you have a website address I can look at? We are leaving fro two weeks now but I can go put her name down so maybe when we are back we are lucky!
Thanks sooo much for your advice!!

Hi April,
Yes I did send my little girl to the Woodland in Pok Fu Lam but I wasn't to impress. It's an hour class twice a week but there is really no structure. The kids do pretty much what they want and at the end they sing a goodbye song. I was looking for some thing more stimulating and fun....like feading the rabits how cute is that :-)

Hi Giggi--
Highgate House is on the Peak, at 100 Peak Road (where the Welcome Market is). Kids come from all over the island, and one girl in my daughter's class comes from Kowloon Tong (!) But honestly, when my daughter was younger, I wouldn't have wanted to travel very far. Recently though, we've been looking in to moving to Tai Tam and I'd keep her at Highgate even with the commute. I really think the school is special.
The website is: http://www.highgatehouse.edu.hk/
You might make an appointment to walk around the school and hear about the program.
Good luck and happy holiday :-)

Hi Mythoughts, where do you attend Music Together in HK? I used to attend one in Switzerland and my son loved it. Would love to do that again with both my kids now in HK.

My little one went to the Wrigglers class at Woodlands Happy Valley last year and I found the class to be quite structured and very enjoyable - sounds very like Highgate House in fact, soft play time, circle time, songs, little art activity and then play and goodbye song/parachute. Other toddler groups I had found were just a place the mums met to gossip and left their children crawling around a dirty hall floor! Hghgate house is beautiful and all my friends loved the playgroup, but in kindergarden it seems it isn't quite as group oriented and moving towards getting ready for primary as others like Starters and Woodlands

Hi Swiss--
Andrea Nye teaches Music Together at the Sandilands facility, directly adjacent to the HK Cricket Club (Wong Nai Chung Gap Road). The next term starts the week of February 6, runs for 8 weeks, and costs $1,100.
Classes may well be full, but you can e-mail her and find out if there's any space. The address is: musictogetherhk@hotmail.com
Good luck!

Hi there, I have taught at the Highgate House for 2 years and I must say... it is a very lovely school. I have a 14 months old daughter now and we will be joining the parent and child group after Easter and it would be lovely to meet some new mothers there like yourselves. Take a look at the school and you will love the surroundings. Children are encouraged to learn through play, singing and activities ie. cooking and arts and crafts...
Hope to see you there
