Eurasian babies playgroup
Posted by jessieywl (806 days ago)
I have a 3 months eurasian baby girl (HK Chinese + English) and think it'd be fun to meet other eurasian babies and families.
Find what you are after in our Hong Kong A-Z Directory

i take my son to tots and toddlers plus. there are quite a few eurasian babies that go there. there are also, canadian, british, japanese, malaysian chinese, taiwanese, italian, spanish/philippino, and others as well... it's usually a nice mix.

Glad to see people are bringing up their kiddies to mix well with the general community... I'm sure there would be a bit of a fuss if I said I wanted a white-babies-only playgroup for my son to join...

i admit that the title of this thread is not politically correct. in fact it does sound kind of awful, i do cringe when i see it.
however, for me, it would be FANTASTIC to be able to find other mothers in a similar situation as myself, faced with similar issues with regard to culture, language, family. make no mistake, my kids mingle with "locals", "whites", "browns", "bananas" etc.....you really need to be in a certain situation before you make a judgement on it.
you are quite welcome to join our group, which, incidently is not 'eurasian' only, but then i'm sure you already have your own group.
Posted by cara (671 days ago)
when i was pregnant with my first, i actually was worried that i might not be able to bond with my eurasian baby as i didn't think there would be much of "me" in there. my hubby's chinese and i love him to bits, but i thought, what if my child has NOTHING of me?
the only other people that might understand where i'm coming from would be other mothers of eurasian babies. the first person(besides my mother) that i told of this fleeting feeling/apprehension was a 1/2 japanese mother whose husband was aussie. she worried that there would be nothing japanese about her baby.
and don't even get me started on the culture differences with the in-laws. i know that most mother have a problem with the in-laws, however, when you are dealing with a completely different culture thrown into the mix...these problems are multiplied 10 fold.
unless you've been there, please don't judge.

Cara - my Husband's Chinese too and we have 2 boys. I so understand the need to speak to others in the same situation. I have lived in HK for 13 years now and have only recently made friends with another lady who's in the same position and I can honestly say that it's changed my life. (Sounds abit extreme I know) but for the very first time I can talk to someone who understands *exactly* how I am feeling and is dealing with alot of the same emotions. It's helped me tremendously!!!!!
Please feel free to mail me if you'd like to meet sometime.
Posted by cara (670 days ago)
thanks katy...where do you live???
i've met up with the ladies on this thread before, but it's very difficult for me to get to where they are... especially as my pregnancy progresses.
i agree, that i want my child to mix with any and every culture/nationality that he encounters. however, for me, it is nice to know that there are others out there in the same situation.
there really aren't so many white chicks with chinese hubbys around...

waiting for the birth of our daughter ( french/filipina mix ) anytime soon, we're wishing to meet mixed raced babies and parents for future playgroups too, but it's not easy here in BKK like in HKG. Any new/expectant moms newly settled in Thailand/BKK?
Posted by katyw (670 days ago)
Cara - You're right we're a real rarity. Usually I only see the other way around Chinese ladies with Western men.
We're in the MidLevels - Where do you live?
I hope you're pregnancy's going well.

Hello ladies, we are relocating to HK from Singapore next year, and was wondering if anyone has recommendations for housing agents? where's the least polluted place to live? We have a 19 mth toddler, and would be nice for her to meet new playmates when we get there.
