Malay Speaking Mothers and Babies group
Posted by Wee Kean (564 days ago)
Selamat Tahun Baru!
I am Malaysian Chinese living in HK since August 2004. My daughter is 26 months old. My hometown is Rawang, Selangor. I can speak Mandarin, Malay, English, Hakka, Hokkien and broken Cantonese (with strong Malaysian accent)
I am part of a group of Malaysian mothers that meets up approximately twice a month to speak Manglish, catch up and makan :) We are a mix of working and stay at home mums.
Once a month, we meet with children at somebody's house with everyone bringing a dish (pot-luck style) - the best bit! The adults will chat and children will play.
And, once a month, mothers meet up for dinner to cakap-cakap!
We welcome any Malaysian, Singaporean or Indonesian mums to join us. Let's meet up either face to face or through the internet to exchange parenting tips or simply chating about anything and everything!
Find what you are after in our Hong Kong A-Z Directory

I can speak Hakka and Mandarin, but am embarrassed with my Malay.
Looking very much forward to our next "outing" with the rest if the girls!!

Posted by Wee Kean (563 days ago)
Hi girls,
Here are my suggestions:
Girls' night out either on 17th, 24th or 31st of January (Wed)?
Venue: either Vbest or Sabah or new places?
New places: any suggestions?
How about the Si Chuan Da Ping Huo private kitchen at Hollywood road? It's HKD250 per person, starts between 6.30pm to 7pm or 9.30pm.
Or Towngas Avenue at TST, next to Intercontinental, Star Avenue? They have a lovely outdoor area with great Victoria Harbour view.
Mums and Children gathering on 22nd of January Monday at 9.30am at the Pokfulam road playground. Mums can bring homecooked breakfast and children can play at the playground. There are two swings in the playground which my daughter loves very much. I will ask my helper to come to help so that mummies can chat.
What do you think?
Posted by SeeYen (563 days ago)
Hello Ladies, it's good to know that there are actually quite a few Malaysian moms in Hong Kong.
I'm SeeYen and have been living in Hong Kong for 13years (seems the longest among those who responded). Married to a local chap and have two boys, age 4 and 2.5years and in my mid-30s. In the years that i'm here, I've never made any Malaysian mom friends, the closest being some good friends from Singapore.
Would love to join in the next gathering.
Posted by mummybee1 (563 days ago)
I have changed email address, gals, cos I can't access yahoo still. WeeKean I have sent you a private PM; please check and update my email address. Many thanks.
Posted by Wee Kean (563 days ago)
Hi See Yen,
Welcome to our group. Please check your pm.
Mummybee, please check your pm as well.
Posted by Leiti (563 days ago)
Selamat Tahun Baru!
Drop in to say Hi. Would love to join in the proposed gathering.
Posted by Wee Kean (563 days ago)
Sorry See Yen, I don't know how to send pm in this website...
Actually, I just want to find out whether we have met before. I do know a Malaysian mum named Yen, who lives in Wan Chai and have 2 sons. Is that you?
Posted by Leiti (563 days ago)
To PM; go to control panel and select compose message. Scroll down to choose the first letter of the username you are going to PM.
Posted by Wee Kean (563 days ago)
Thanks Leiti. Welcome to our group.
It seems to take me forever trying to find the username or may be I am using wrong method? Can I just type the username that I want or I have no choice but to scholl down?
I am quite new here so still trying to learn how to make good use of this website.
Posted by Wee Kean (563 days ago)
Hi mums,
If you would like to join the Girls' night out, please let me know your choice of day and venue.
Posted by Christine W (563 days ago)
Hi, this is Christine W, also checking in to say hello ;-) I have a 28 month old girl.
You girls go ahead and plan a date and I'll do my best to join. Apparently my new helper won't be arriving until early - mid February (sooooo long). I'm desperate to go out. Daddy has not been successful at putting my girl to sleep. Tried twice already in the past few weeks. She's been crying her eyes out under his care. I bet she's playing up because she knows mummy is nearby. I wonder if I should just leave them together for a couple of hours, even if it means daddy can only get one mouthful of rice in and she doesn't sleep well ;-)
We are also planning to go back to Malaysia from the 27th -31st of this month. Can't wait to have asam laksa, my all time favourite.
Posted by mummybee1 (563 days ago)
Count me in. I prefer the following:
(1) 17th or 24th but not 31/1 'cos we are moving the next day;
(2) Hollywood Road Restaurant sounds lovely - it is close to home which is great as I have a curfew of 9-ish to put my daughter to sleep
(3) Would be lovely too if we can have it at 6.30pm 'cos of my curfew. Time flew the other night we met I wish we had more time.
As with the mum+baby playgroup, I would like to join too, daughter and helper coming along. Where is Pokfulam Playground???
Posted by mummybee1 (563 days ago)
Incidentally, do you gals know abt the "Proud Parents" section? I posted a picture of my daughter and it feels like we are the parents of a celebrity. HA HA HA...
Posted by SeeYen (563 days ago)
Wee Kean, from your description, it does sound like we have met...I might have sold something to you as I'm a regular on the Trading Post section :)
I'm also not very sure of how to use this 'PM' function but it is clearer now. Once a date and time has been decided on the gathering, I will fit in accordingly since my time is rather flexible as long as I know events in advance.

Posted by Wee Kean (563 days ago)
Pokfulam Road playground is along Pokfulam Road. If you are coming from Central, you can take bus no. 40 or 40M or 37A or 23 or any buses that go to Queen Marry hospital or Wah Fu. or ShaWan Drive or Cyberport or Bel Air.
If you are taking taxi, tell the taxi driver it is near no. 90 Pokfulam Road.
Girls' night out on 17th at Si Chuan Tai Ping Huo, Hollywood road (3 confirmed votes - Kara, Mummybee and WK) I can book for 6.30pm. On time mums can save food for late mums. Please note that HKD250 per person is excluding drinks.
Other mums, can you confirm your vote? ChristianOO1? Leiti? Elaine? SeeYen?
Mums and Babies outing (3 confirmed votes - Kara, Mummubee and WK) Would you like to meet earlier, say, 15th of Jan?
I will bring fried noodle for kids (mushroom, fishcakes, vege and meehoon with dark sauce)
Can other mums sponsor cut fruits? drinks? vege? homemake cookies/cakes? sandwich?
Mummybee, please let us know what your daughter cannot take. We will try to avoid it.

Posted by lasez (563 days ago)
Arrgghhh! I can't make it on the 17th. My lil' bub is getting her vaccination that morning so I'm on standby... have fun!

Posted by ChristineOoi (563 days ago)
Wee Kean, Jusr read my email and replied regarding the outing,,, helloo.. i'm not 001 lah, it's Ooi, mmhh.. Hongker only take it as 001 lah..hehehe..15th Jan sounds good to me too. I'll prepare sandwhich, (just the materiel, DIY when you eat), i have a plastic picnic sheet from toyrus, will bring along, can use as table cloth or just spread it on the floor to let our kid sit.
Hello to See Yen, ... :-) welcome to our group
Posted by Leiti (563 days ago)
Will confirm on my availability for mommies nightout soon (still working to re-schedule my earlier apptmt). Will join Mums and Babies outing if it's not on Monday nor Friday AM.
Re PM, unfortunately there is no shortcut to it...you have to scroll down to get the range right and scroll again the get the username.
Posted by kara23 (563 days ago)
oh wow! this forum is happening! what would u like me to prepare for the playground? cake? or maybe muffins would be less messier. See Yen, my best friend's name is almost the same as yours!! she worked here for 2 years and have recently gone back to KL. hope to meet u soon!

Thank you ladies for the warm welcome. Not sure about you all but I'm unable to log in to my Yahoo account for the past 5 days so if anyone has 'PM'-ed me, I have not read your message. Like mentioned, once the final date is decided, I will fit in accordingly. So it is the 17th or 24th now?
Posted by PengS (562 days ago)
Hi! I'm Peng with 2 girls - 40 and 15 months respectively. I'm from PJ and have lived in HK for 6+ years. Would love to join the playgroups but I'm working : (
I'm sorry I don't think I'll join you for dinner -the Szechuan food there is spicy! But then I'm thinking about the company - very tempting.
Btw-WK I heard that one has to book months in advance for dinner at this restaurant.

Count me in for the 24th.

Hi! This is Jane Lee from Sandakan, Sabah. Married to a local and have a 26mo boy, live in Chaiwan.
Weekean - Thanks for organising - Please count me in:
Girls' night out on 17th/24th at Si Chuan Tai Ping Huo, Hollywood road
But I could only reach there by 7-730pm since daddy has gone back to work nowadays.
Posted by Wee Kean (562 days ago)
Hi girls,
Last night, my husband and I walked up and down Soho area finding interesting looking restaurants and collecting cards so that next time we can try out different restaurants... Spanish, Italian, Thai, Mexican, Vietnamese..you name it!
So far, 9 moms confirmed for 24th of Jan Wed:
Kara, Mummybee, Leiti, SeeYen, ChristianOoi, Elaine, Jane, Janelle and WK. Good! Please let me know if I missed out your name.
I've booked and need to re-confirm on 19th of Jan and pay deposit. Once confirmed and paid, no refund. So, any changes, please let me know before 19th of Jan.
Peng, I know, that restaurant's food is really spicy. I have been there for 5 times since I came to HK in 2004 because it's a nice place to take family and friends.
We can accomodate 12 people in one big table so please let me know if you want to join us. We can see this as CNY reunion dinner?
Posted by Ed (562 days ago)
Moved to KL Playgroups forum
Posted by Wee Kean (560 days ago)
We are all residing in HK, not quite sure why we ended up here in KL. Oh well, I actually wish that I could physically be back to KL... can't wait for CNY holidays!
Moms that will join the 24th of Jan dinner are: Kara, Mummybee, SeeYen, ChristineOoi, Elaine, Jane, Janelle and WK
Moms & Babes that will join the 15th of Jan playground picnic are Kara, Mummybee, ChristineOoi, Janelle, Felicia and WK

Hi WK & All,
Am previously a Malaysian during childhood and now a Singaporean. Have been in Singapore >15years before I relocate to HK >3 years ago. My girl is 3yrs 2.5 months, speaks only English and understands Cantonese, as her grandparents are local. Sometimes I speak to her in my drizzle Malay and she laughs. Wonders if she finds it funny cos my Malay has all been given back to school after I went to Singapore. And am embarrassed about my Malay too since I scored distinction in Malay. Ouch! Tapi tidak apa, maybe boleh catch up lagi… Ha ha ha.
I would like to join the your outings and the babies group, but am working.. Saya boleh join your groups kalau the outings is held somewhere near Sabah Restaurant, Western, since I can easily pop back home for my girl’s bedtime. The last time when we had a late outing and the grandparents babysit, she waited for us till 1:30am to get home before she sleeps.
Meantime, you all have fun
Posted by Wee Kean (557 days ago)
Welcome Velocity. From your message, you seems to suggest that you live near Sabah Kennedy Town (Western)? I live in the Belcher's. There are many Malaysian and Singaporean live in the Belcher's and Bel Air. May be one night we can meet up for dinner at Sabah?

Hi all, sorry for my late reply. I was in French countryside with no internet access but good wine and cheese last week but now enjoying Oxford's bookshops and coffee shops.. :)
Welcome to all of you!
Yes, I had organised some activities just before the end of July on almost every Monday morning for mums and kids; once a month or so dinner outing for mums only or husbands and wives (no kids sorry). Some mums organised karaoke or dancing or shopping outing once in a while etc.
My daughter will start nursery on 1 Sept in the morning so activities in Sept onwards that I will organise will have to be in the afternoon.
Please can you pm me if you wish to join our activities?
Also, for all Malaysian, just like last year, I am going to organise a Merdeka Celebration on 1 Sept. Please pm me for more details.
I am coming back to HK on 28 July so please bear with me if I have not replied to you before then.
Have a good summer!
p/s: we have lots of Penangites and of course Selangorian!! YEAH!!
