Parkview - Repulse Bay
Posted by boedker (386 days ago)
Hallo,
My family of 3 is moving to Hong Kong in the beginning of September 2007. I am looking for a place to live, and are presently looking at Parkview - Repulse Bay. Is this a nice place? (it looks nice - but pictures lie sometimes) - and is it a good place for children? - have a boy 1, 5 years old.
And in your opinion what is the best place to live - Repulse Bay or Stanley? And why?
Best regards Boedker

There is no "Best Place", they all have pros and cons. Parkview provides full club house facilities, great for kids and housewife to social, but foggy and humid in Spring, no harbor view, the 18 years old fitting in kitchen and bathrooms is getting tired, but not old enough to push the landlord to replace them. Lucky if you pick up some good samples.
Stanley is good for restaurants, asian market, beaches, waterview and shops but 15 minutes more on commuting, no club facilities like Parkview.
If you are new to HK, take a look at 3-4 properties in each of the following area, then determine where fit you the BEST:
Mid-Level, Pokfulam, Happy Valley, Jardine Lookout, South Side, Peak and Discovery Bay.
Where South Side includes Shouson Hill, Repulse Bay, South Bay, Chung Hom Kok, Stanley and Tai Tam.

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for your answer.
We only have 2 days to find a place to stay. The reason why we have picked Repulse Bay and Stanley is because we have been told that these areas have less pollution and that they are very nice to live in.
Will drop Parkview from what you have told me, and try to get an apartment in a low rise complex. Any suggestions?
Best regards Boedker

Parkview is a bit like DB in that everyone either loves or hates it.
We also focused on Repulse Bay and Stanley for the reasons that you outlined - air quality and view. City/Victoria Harbour view does nothing for me - much rather wake up to sailboats, water skiiers etc. We prefer Stanley because it still has a village feel to it, but many opt for RB as you are 8-10 mins closer to Central. Check out a few properties in both. It's amazing what you can fit into 2 days with a decent relocation agent. You will have a decent choice of preschools for your son in both, when the time comes. Happy house hunting.
