Free standing bathtubs
Posted by belville (421 days ago)
We are looking for a good looking reasonable priced 1.5m free standing bathtub. The ones on offer are normally too long for our bathroom. Appreciate any help.
Find what you are after in our Hong Kong A-Z Directory

B&Q had some shorter bathtubs that were freestanding

yes they have, but much more expensive as we can offer.

It is all about shopping around Woder - maybe you have the cheaper versions, but not the style or design that belville is looking for - sometimes cheapest is not all that people are looking for.

ha ha we just purchased all our bathroom gear today.
Roca toilet, bathtub and glazed sliding door ( very stylish 2 door variety that is the full width of the room. $7500 for the lot
The bathtub was $3800 on its own.
Looked at a lot of different types until we settled on something that was tasteful etc.
Prices seemed very reasonable to me.
Bathroom in total, as we are gutting the existing one, will end up costing us 35K, we imported a couple of pieces from overseas due to not finding what we wanted here. Mainly the sink bowl, towel racks, accesories and tap etc. Vanity will be mahogany timber, fluted vertical glazed timber sliding doors and black granite bench top with a fine speckle fleck.. I'll put some photos up on a blog when things are all completed.
I do believe an upright bathtub ( as ours isnt ) would be in the region of 3500 and 8000 depending on brand and where it was manufactured.
Yuen Long is the best location to source building materials IMHO, prices are definately lower than Kowloon and Lockhart road CWB, theres a whole block of streets dedicated to the building trade, it made our life very easy getting most things that we needed. We are acting as the designer, contracting all the individual tradesmen, doing some of the work ourselves to our own concept, so far so good.
Saikunga is right, don't just go for the cheapest bath you can get your hands on, get the bath tub that is right for you, at a price that you are happy to pay.

Thanks for that tip vantastic - our bathrooms are next on the hit list! So did you get everything you needed in Yuen Long (apart from the imported stuff)?
Have you taken all the tiles off the walls and floors of the old bathroom?

Hi Saikunga, and yeah our bathroom is gutted, for the exception of the granite slab floor, as its one whole piece, we decided to retain it because its not generally done today.
The vanity is being made locally, the long vertical slab flush fitting wall tiles with sea shell border tiles were purchased locally, we purchased our French federation style bathroom sink in Beijing, as did the brass and white ceramic Victorian taps, and the matching brass shower rose and tap set, brass towel rails, hand towel hoop, and the hotel style over head towel/luggage rack. We also purchased our kitchen 2. 3/4 bowl stainless steel sink that has a built in bin recess, cutting board insert and a liquid dertergent dispenser built in, plus another Victorian style cross handled twin tap goose neck tap, not a flick mixer etc which is done to death in HK, and its a bore.
I am amazed how much more comprehensive the range of building materials are in Beijing compared to HK's extremely limited offerings.
Luckilly for us air freight doesnt cost us anything. The prices in Beijing are also about 40% - 70% cheaper than HK.
