Connecting Utilities

Hi,

We are just about to sign a lease and were wondering about what we need to connect utility wise and how much it is going to cost us.

Can anyone tell me what you need to connect (and on what phone numbers) and if you know of any good deals re tv/internet etc. I've heard you need to pay deposits for connecting elec, water, gas etc, is this correct and roughly how much is it?

How you can sign a lease when are the utilities are not connected. Hown to check whether everything is working?

for electric, it depends on where you live, but either CHINA LIGHT AND POWER (CLP) or HONG KONG ELECTRIC. i think that the initial deposit is about $2000 and it is billed to you.

the water should be connected already, not sure if there is a deposit. it is provided by the water services dept of gov't.

gas is usually provided by towngas. not sure of deposits.


for telephone numbers call the telephone directory at 1081 for english.

Get your agent to get everything connected for you as part of the huge fee you will be paying them. This is what we did - we paid all the deposits but the agent did all the calling.

You can do all of this online, including making the appointments!!
