Recommendation
Posted by jade in HK (445 days ago)
My husband and I moving to Hong Kong from the U.S. We have narrowed our search for an apartment to two, one on the South side (Pacific View) and one in Ho Man Tin. Totally different environments , we have a dog but no children. We really like Ho Man Tin but are concerned there are not many ex-pats. Comments or recommendation on either location.

Used to live in Ho Man Tin Hill road... not as many expats in the area, but not sure why you would neccessarily want to move to a place where there is a lot!?
Its very quiet and conveniant to go to HK side as its very close to the cross harbour tunnel. Ho Man Tin is also considered to be a "Nice" part of Kowloon...
I had a dog, and luckily where we were tehre was a very big balcony for him to run around on...!

You need to come ot HK yourself to get a feel for the place - if you are looking in Kadoorie Avenue - a number of expats live there.

Thank you both very much for your replys.
We are in Hong Kong currently for the selecting of our apartment.
Our concerns are might the constant crush of people,if we take the MTR, get to us after a while(clostrafobia)?
Or would we become acustommed to it?
On the other hand, are we cutting ourselves off if we live in Tai Tam? We have no children.
P.S.both balconeys are very small, the one in Tai Tam very, very!
Any other thoughts would be very helpful!
Thank you again! KS

I think you should look around Mid Levels too. Lots of diversity.

I would not worry about the 'crush of people'...and the MTR is very good for transportation and claustraphobia is not an issue IMHO. What you can get apartment-wise will depend on your budget, getting a personal feel of different areas and deciding whether you want to be near the action, on the fringe or out of it! If a good-sized balcony is important to you then hold on to this requirement when visiting estate agents.
