New in HK
Posted by tabarca (353 days ago)
Hi guys, how are you doing?
I am moving to Hong Kong in a couple of weeks. I am teacher, 31, single, working in the new territories. I dont have a big budget, but I dont want to spend more than HK$10k per month in accomodation.
What do you reccomend me?(Places, characteristics, transportation...)I guess, a good option would be a serviced appartment.
I am going to stay in the Kowloon YWCA for a month, but after that time, I will have to move anywhere.
Thanks for your help

The new territories is pretty big. Where is your school? What kind of things do you like ie: restaurants and bars or a sea view, do you mind high rise living, are you looking for a furnished place, how long will you be here.....

IMHO if you are working in the new territories then find accommodation closest to the nearest MTR station. You will probably be no more than 1 bus ride away from work and you will be able to get into town and about quickly enough to enjoy HK.

Hi again, sorry for my missed information.
My school is in Tai Po, and probably, I will be living in HK at laeast for 1 year.
I like cooking, and I dont go out for eating often. If people know furnished places, I guess, it is going to be easy for me.
Thanks again

Tai Po > Lam Kam road has plenty to offer you as well as Tei Mei Tuk with decent shopping not too far away from either of them especially Lam Kam road or further up toward Fanling which you can use the P&S at Hong Lok Yuen

Oh forgot to mention that furniture is cheap (new and used) and easily handled in Hk but if your want serviced suites check out the Horizon in Ma On Shan they start $6.8K month

What about can consider Fanling, Avon Park or Dawning View. Rental around HK$10/sq.feet. with club house facilities. 10 min. walking distance from KCR Fanling station. Flat size around 500 - 1000 sq.feet.

well, I live in Taipo also, so i would suggest u to rent the flats in inside Taipo.
Where will be yr school located? around Tai Yuen Estate? around Taipo centre ? or which estate is it located in?
The town center in taipo will be Tai Po Centre, any apartment around Taipo will be vy convenient for you.
If you would like to live closer to railway, you might choose to rent Uptown Plaza which is just above KCR station.

OHOH ~~Hong Lok Yuen .... that's shld be international school , isn't that ?
well, Hong Lok Yuen which is a exiled luxury residential place, basically is not located in the town area of Taipo, it is quite far away from either Taipo town centre or Taipo KCR station.
I guess, there shld be shuttle bus service from HLY to Taipo Centre or KCR station.
Places in HLY is not prefered for you since all living places there are houses, nearly no apartments are there and HLY is a high-class place. Rent shld be high and may be over yr budget.
In that case, may be u can choose to rent the houses in the traditional village nearby, such as Wai Tau Tsuen or Tai Hang.

Tai Po is not that far from HLY - it is a 10 minute drive and HLY does have a shuttle bus that does the run quite often from thye KCR so you could live anywhere on the KCR line and it would still be convenient.

Wai Tau and Tai Hang are good choices for you with village houses very convenient to work and the is a good Park&Shop in HLY
