Wood Floor Laying Method

Does anyone know the standard method HK for laying a solid floor on a base surface. The surface is rough concrete since the previous tile/ floors were removed by jackhammer. Should the concrete be relaid, or can one just use lay the sub-board on-top of the rough concrete? Should the sub-board be sized to fit exactly with no gaps, or are slight gaps ok? thnx!

If the concrete is not too rough you can nail down 10mm plywood, leave about 5mm gap between each section and then you can lay your floor boards, but if you not have any experience in this work, don't even try, you only will waste your floor boards.

Advice from WoDer sounds spot on - you need a base first.

Thanks for your reply Woder. We have existing skirting that will match the new floor. Will this skirting be "ruined" when we lift the old floor? Would we have to replace the skirting also?

The skirting need to be changed. The old one will be ruined when you strip the old floor.
