Discovery Bay
Posted by eifu (333 days ago)
I am going to move to Hong Kong in January and I am looking for an appartment. Someone suggested me to look in discovery bay, telling me that it takes ony 45 minutes to reach Hong Kong island. Is that true?
Looking at the map, it seems much further.
Thanks for your help!

I think it should only take about 30 mins on the ferry from Discovery Bay to Central. Also have a look at Park Island. It's a bit cheaper and a bit more local and about 25 mins to central.

it's 25 minutes by ferry to HK island and about the same to tsuen wan by mtr/bus... if you wanted to get to TST it is about 45 minutes or so.

and don't forget the waiting time for ferry in the heat. its only works when you have a shower in your office

Thank you for your tips. Anyway, I have never been to Hong Kong and so I have no idea what is TST.
I am getting mad to find a pre-school for my child and a good house. I am looking for a good pre-school and I would like the house near the school. At the same time I would like to find a job and to be able to reach the job place without problems.
Before to get the tip about Discovery bay, I was thinking to stay in Mid levels or Kowloon (where is my husband's office).
Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot

you REALLY need to be in HK for a little while BEFORE you commit to a house/flat. everyone likes different things and what i may LOVE you may HATE.
I'd ask the hubby's company to pay for serviced apt for a little while when you first arrive so that you can get your bearings.
good luck! it's a great adventure!

eifu, can you give me some idea of your budget for renting a place? And where your husband's office is in Kowloon? I'm a property agent and I can then send you a list of suggested places, so you can get a better idea of what's available.

Discovery Bay is definately not the best place to live if you're husbands office is in Kowloon. You'd be better off looking out at Clearwater Bay , I can drive to Kowloon Tong in 15 mins from where I am. A very nice area to live. You definately should get a serviced apartment for a month and have a really good look around and get your bearings before deciding.
