Posted by MisterD (243 days ago) I've never paid more than the first month's rent plus one month deposit, but I bought my own place and haven't rented for the past few years so maybe things have changed. 3 months or more seems somewhat excessive, but whether it is worth it depends on what the overall deal is like I suppose. If they're offering a significantly below market rental in exchange then it might be worth considering. Have you asked the landlord why he is asking for such a large deposit?
