hi,
i'm leaving HK and have few more monthes to the end of my lease.. what is the best way to approach the landlord? the rules here are so deferent from back home..
Do you have some written in your contract about the notice?
If no, most of contracts are for 2y. So you can't break it before the end of the 2y.
But, you can ask your landlord anyway. As the property market is always going up, your landlord will be happy to take back his property and rent it to someone else at a new rental (higher one of course).
The best is to send a letter to your landlord and asking him if you can leave in 1 or 2 months. And wait for the good answer.
Agree with jele, but if you have a deposit with the owner, there is a good chance you will have extreme difficulty getting it back, espically if they know you are leaving the country. So if you gave them a 1 month deposit, I would not pay my last month's rent and tell him to keep the deposit!
most contracts are for 2 years but they have a break clause of 1 month's notice after the first year, at least that's what all my lease contracts have been since I've moved to HK.
