Moving from the U.S.

Hi, I am relocating to HK this Summer with my wife and newborn son.

I was wondering if someone can recommend a good place to live in HK in such case. I am willing take more time to commute for sake of better environment. Rental range for at least 3-bedrooms?

Second, I heard that most of the apartments in HK come furnished or at lease semi-furnished. Does this mean that we can not take our own furniture from the US?

Last, any good hospital for kids?

hello sungms, good luck with the move. If you can give us some idea of your monthly budget and where you expect to be working eg Central? this would be helpful...

In fact, most apt here come unfurnished, but American furniture are too large for some of the places here. For example, 1000 sq.ft. means 700' usable area. They usually designed with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths in this size, you could imagine it wouldn't fit a king size bed in the master bedoom. And such 1000' can cost up to HK$45,000 per month in some area. Price range is wide depends on different area: HK$20-60/sq.ft. hence 1000' goes from HK$20,000 to HK$60,000.

I've a client from Colorado with a budget of $45,000, leased a 1500' apartment (1200' net). She moved all her furniture of a 3000' house to HK, the bed frame not even able to get through the main door or the elevator. Then she has to store all her furniture in a warehouse and buy new ones here. Storage is expensive too.

Hospital in the Peak or Mid-Level are better for expats.
