Shade on a village rooftop terrace.

Hi - has anyone used shade sails? They seem to be popular with DB residents. Shop selling them in Mui Wo. Pros and cons? I have a village rooftop where I want some shade but probably nothing too too permanent but more than an umbrella. Anyone bought them off the internet? B.

I bought some in Australia off grays online - a warehouse auction system for bottom dollar. We haven't installed them yet, but plan to install them so they can be taken down in high winds and in winter when we need the sun on the roof. Just make sure where ever you buy they have a UV rating and decent stitiching.

Thanks. How are you installing fixing them?............. poles? on rooftop wall? or what? How do you check the UV rating? What does the rating go up to - any idea?

We are going to use poles and the one wall which is higher to affix. The UV rating should be stated when you purchase it her eis some info
Cloth
There are two main types of cloth to be considered ? shade cloth or waterproof cloth. Waterproof cloth will generally ive. The design parameters for a waterproof shade are different from a sunshade, water runoff needs to y be more expensive. There are many shade cloths on the market each offering different UV Blockout ratings of between 70 and 99%.

* Cloth with a rating below 89% UVB is classified as having a Low Ultra Violet Protection.
* Cloth with a rating of 89 and 93% UVB is a Moderate UV Protection
* Cloth with a rating of 94 and 95% UVB is having a High UV Protection
* Cloth with a rating of 96 and 97% UVB is having a Very High UV Protection
* Cloth with a rating of 98% UVB and above is having maximum UV protection
