Looking for information on flat rental

I am looking for a flat to rent in HK. I have lived here for years with my family but they are leaving HK. I need to find somewhere inexpensive to live. Pls can someone let me know (a) if I have to sign a contract for a minimum period of time (b) normally what is the deposit. Is there anything else I should know that would make things easier?

Normally you will sign a contract for 2 years and pay the agent half a month's rental. The normal initial payment will be 2 months deposit plus 1 month in advance. For 'inexpensive', you might try Kennedy Town.

Many thanks! Would probably be cheaper if I rented directly from the owner. Money is an issue as I've only just started working!
