Good area to live with kids?
Posted by liuruyu (94 days ago)
Hi everyone, we are considering an offer from my company to move to HK. We have a 2yr old and 4month old boys. So which area will be good for kids? (such as playgroup, playground, etc?)
we used to live in HK 3 years ago. At that time we don't have any kids, so we lived at mid-level area. But I guess this time around, things will be different. As everything will be centered around kids now.
Your input is truly appreciated!

You can't beat Park Island when it comes to kids. Tonnes of playgrounds, heaps of space for bike riding, a beach, clubhouses with playrooms, pools, mini-golf, bowling. 20 minutes by ferry to central or 10 minutes by shuttle bus to Tsing Yi and school buses will pick up at these locations. Great community atmosphere, heaps of the kids know each other and the air is a lot fresher (relatively) than most places as no cars are allowed on the island. Also very easy on the budget!!

what's the real name of Park Island (in local's term)? and how is the commute from there to Central? I will be working at IFC II.

Park Island is Ma Wan and if you were working at IFC II it would be perfect for you. The ferry goes to no#2 ferry pier at central and then it's just a 5 minute walk to work. I think door to door you'd be looking at 30minutes.

southside (stanley, tai tam) is great - living by the beach and a few schools in Red hill - depends on your budget of course - it is a bit more expensive.

Stanley is certainly great, has a very good village community feel to it. The beach is right on your doorstep and the air quality is better than many other parts of Hong Kong. Hong Kong Island School is also nearby, in South Bay. Stanley also has excellent public transport - check it out....

You might want to consider Kowloon Station. With such young children, it would be much easier getting around ... no need for a car. There is an international Kindergarten and a lovely new playground. All of the residential buildings (Harborside, Arch, Waterfront and Sorrento) have swimming pools too.

We also have a dog, so I think a place with a terrace, or garden or a roof top space will work for us the best. With that requirement, I think I have to go out of town a bit, as I don't think I can ever afford a place like that on HK island
