Best Thai Restaurant
Posted by sharona83 (1229 days ago)
Does anyone know where a reasonably priced yet good thai place is in HK Island or Kowloon?
I went out the other night and spent a lot of money on a crappy thai place and want to eat some good thai.
Cheers!

Cafe Siam on Lyndhurst Terrace is excellent - good quality tasty thai food and prices are very reasonable.
Also Thai Basil in Pacific Place is good if you don't mind sitting in a shopping mall.

Cafe Siam and Thai Basil are my favourites but Her Thai in TST is good too, better price and great harbour view. Al fresco dining by HK Park, in "China Hong Kong City"(where you get ferries to Macau, Zuhai etc)

Wyndham Thai is delicious.. not cheap but worth the price and you can earn Asia Miles too. Soho Spice isn't bad either.

Some Cheaper Thai places...
Tuk Tuk Thai, on Graham Street just off Hollywood Road. Small, they offer 'home style street food' - simple, nothing special, but good.
Thilda Thai on Lyndhurst Terrace is a take-away in a doorway - HKD 30 - 40 for a lunchbox.
Wan Chai, the back streets between the MTR and Hopewell have some Thai supermarkets with small 'restaurants' in the back - fabulous food.
Greens in Wan Chai in the 'San Li Tun' elevated walkway area with all the restaurants. Terrible service at lunchtime, but good food.
Agree about Cafe Siam and Thai Basil... will have to try Her Thai on Kimmy's recommendation!

For cheap and quick. Thai Hut in Wanchai opp Joe Bananas and the Thai restaurants in the Wanchai market. There are loads around wanchai but probably worth asking one of the numerous Thais walking around there. If you want traditional Thai just ask for it to be cooked for you. eg at Thai Hut, the Thais ask for what they want whereas the Falang pick what they see!

Actually Sharona I know a place in Causeway Bay run by a real Thai family where the food is excellent and the bill will come to only $70 each, including beer and a lot of food. Not many westerners know about it and i'd prefer to keep it that way because it is already very busy and ive had to wait 15 mins to get in before. If you want to know where message me. In fact its so good i cant bring myself to eat thai food anywhere else.

Whatever you do, make sure you visit the Wong Chun Chun Thai restaurant at the corner of Nga Tsin Wai Road and Tak Ku Ling in Kowloon City.
This Thai restaurant started off about 20 years ago in Kowloon City and the food is still brilliant and reasonably priced too! It has re-located three times, followed by its ever loyal clientele, and each time it has moved its premises have gone further up-market. It has just moved into its new location and they've spent $8m on the decor, occupying some three floors.
Many of the original staff are still working there - it has become so well-known that all you need to do is jump into a taxi, mention Kowloon City and the Wong Chun Chun restaurant and the driver justs goes into automode! We cannot recommend this place highly enough - we've been going there regularly for at least 18 years.

i just went to Her Thai (TST) for sunday lunch and would like to warn you guys that dining indoors isnt that great! despite the fantastic food (good portions too), the atmosphere is very thin... so only go when the weather is good enough to sit outside!

couldn't get a table at Phuket's last Sat - absolutely packed to the brim! Went to Chedi's instead (Thai restaurant, also on Elgin St, oppostite Phuket's). Had to wait 15 mins for a table, but was not disappointed. Food was pretty good! Even a dish as basic as the green curry was tasty. Steamed rice was expensive though, at HK$15 a bowl.

Try the Chilli Club on Lockhart Road. It has been there for years (approx 20) along with the same staff. Fantastic Thai food at very very reasonable prices. The decor is not great but you will not be disappinted with the food - highly recommend.

Chili Club is an old favourite... was at Cafe Siam recently and that was very nice as well... come to think of it - I dont think I've ever been to a Thai restaurant that was not good...
