Oonamii - Kennedy Town
Posted by watergirl (808 days ago)
Not sure if I have spelt the name correctly but has anyone else tried this fab Japanese restaurant in Kennedy Town?
Its on Cadogan Street, couple of doors up from the K1 bar.
Fantastic Japanese food, lovely staff although very dark/slightly claustraphobic (all black and mirrors and no windows).
We just happened to stumble on it the other night otherwise I would never have known its there - can't find it listed on any of the usual HK eating sites or expat sites?
Anyway, if you are in KT and hungry for sushi, I definitely recommend it!
And no, I don't work for the restaurant. Just curious as to why I'd never heard of this gem and can't find any info on it. Perhaps it is very new?

Oonami opened Sept 2005, from memory.
39 Cadogan Street. 28176626. Lack of fame might be due to it's location: nobody suddenly says to their friends, "Oh! Let's go and eat in Kennedy Town!"

Just moved to Kennedy Town. The restaurant scene certainly isn't great there. With all these expats moving in there: the belchers, the merton, manhattan heights, 33 mount davis etc you'd think that it would be better. Someone seems to be missing a trick.....

Well, they may say that if they all live in or near the Kennedy Town area...

And if you live near Detroit, you might say "Let's eat in Detroit!". But my point is you wouldn't say it otherwise.

I don't mean to be petty but I don't understand your point. Detroit is actually a large city. Kennedy Town is only a suburb of a larger city.
I've got friends that live all over HK Island (eg. Happy Valley, Wan Chai, Aberdeen, etc.) and they will often say 'Lets catch up/drink/eat over your side of town', in other words 'Lets catch up/drink/eat in Kennedy Town'. Sometimes my side of town, sometimes their side of town.
Anyway, by the by, just wanted to suggest Oonami to people if they ever found themselves out west and were looking for some quality food.
