Tailors in Shenzhen Posted by kardi08 (731 days ago) I have checked all the threads and found only two tailors being recommended i have myself tried several tailors but have still not found someone who is really good, i am planning to go in two weeks, any recommendations of trailors that anyone has tried willbe really appreciated. Thanx Find what you are after in our Hong Kong A-Z Directory  Posted by JenV (730 days ago) I've tried both Ada and John chi, recommended by the shop in Shenzhen book. found both to be good but as with all of them you have to be very specific about the details. Pictures and even better, samples for them to copy. Develop a relationship with them. Ada is more fashionable and is better with fabrics. I've had business shirts and suits made with Ada, as well as a gorgeous evening gown and some casual wear. All great. Try not to go on the weekend. Otherwise first thing in the morning on Satruday is best. they have more time to spend with you. Also spend a lot of time in the fabric market. there's some great stuff in there. Have fun!

Posted by Dodie V (690 days ago) I usually go with a Chinese friend and she is able to take me to an amazing tailor who has great prices (and will change anything until it's perfect! The last pair of pants I had made she tweaked three times for me until they were absolutely right!). Wouldn't be of any help if you don't speak Chinese.
Posted by zarafour (675 days ago) I found that Adah is too busy and there are too many mistakes. I had to take the clothes back. I mean 3 inches too small or too large - the clothes. Pls can anyone suggest anyone else who they have liked.Thanks Zara Posted by Phoenix7 (672 days ago) I have been visiting Shenzhen for years and have found a bit of a trend with the tailors. When you a new client they are friendly, helpful and fulfill your order in the time promised. But after a certain amount of time the service drops. They do remain friendly but I feel as if I am taken for granted. Orders are not completed on time which means you have wasted time making the journey up there - this is when the promise of completion was 1 week but I went up after 2 weeks. Have been asked to wait up to 5 hours - 'on its way'. This has happened 3 times in the last year by my chosen tailor who cultivated a friendship. The last time didn't wait (early Dec) and had to wait a further 2 weeks until it was shipped down. To my horror all items were far too big all over and yesterday the tailor said it would not be until after CNY when I would get the only item I asked to be taken in. I liked this lady but have now learned that it is best to approach without the friendship theme - its business. I guess I am larger - UK 14 - and have become a little dependent on the tailoring in Shenzhen as clothes shopping in HK can become a bit depressing at UK 14. This is not a big rant or whinge - it is an observation. If you have to, have 2 or 3 tailors and don't become dependent on just 1, take samples, and ring before you leave HK - although it didn't work with my tailor. And although many of the tailors and tradespeople iin Shenzhen are sweet and charming - its all business. Posted by sur501 (663 days ago) I used to go to shenzhen tailors a lot but ususally had to go back several times for fittings and many times for alterations to the point of exhaustion -I would rather pay a bit more to my hong kong tailor where I only make two trips to get something made and avoid a lot of trouble plus I can be sure of the fabrics because I bought a lot of Shanghia tang jackets from the Shenzhen tailor and was told they were silk but found out later they were rayon.They have a lot of copy English and Italian fabrics for suits which is a waste of monry for businessmen but perhaps okay for the female shoppers who rather wear something for a short period and change evry now and then whereas I find it better to pay a reasonable amount and expect a suit that would last afew years without going shiny due to the synthetic components in the fabrics. Posted by 0ze_Kid (150 days ago) I can recommend Sophia (shop 50A) [assume it is different to Sophie - shop numbers or locations would be useful] who I used quite a lot. Or shop 48 (only used a couple of times). Both on the 5th floor. In my experience Sophia is excellent at copying an item of clothing you give her. She is good a copies from a picture but you need to be able to go back a couple of times for fittings as she makes the item too big and it always need taking in. Posted by pseudolus (24 days ago) I've got a tailor who comes to Central from Shenzhen and makes my suits. I've had a few made from Hk based ones like Jims, and I must say the quality from this guy is just as good, and the service is better (as in, in my office). Considerably cheaper as well I must say - had 2 suits, 5 shirts, 1 very nice casual jacket, and 4 casual shirts to my own designs really. PM me if you want his number as he's here 3 times a week.
