Using 2nd passport at border

Posted by sistim (29 days ago)
Re. getting a SZ visa at the border- the form is very simple & a Canadian/American friend is going & thinking of using his Canadian passport to go over the border - it has no stamps in, everything is done on his US passport & he only got the Canadian one recently. Due to the supposedly subversive nature of his employer, he's had problems getting full China visas before, using his US p/p.. I assume that version of him is on file somewhere.
So, if he rocks up at SZ with a new blank passport, are they likely to question him or ask to see his HK ID etc?? Might they try cross-reference? Anyone have experience of this?
As he'll use his ID for the HK part, he would rather not even take the US passport as a back up should the Canadian one fail.
I was asked for my HK ID card at the Lok Ma Chau crossing recently- going INTO China! I assume it's cos I don't look much like the 9 yr old passport photo, but I've never had a problem before. Just a little paranoid these days.

Without any HK visa or stamps in the Canadian passport there may be would be an issue as they'd look at the passport when they took it away for applying an SEZ visa. So that would not work. As a US passport holder he cannot get visa at the border either. His only option is to apply for a visa at the China Resource Building in Wanchai.

Aiyahhh. forgot that they can't get one at the border (Americans). But this begs another question- during the life of my current passport, I've become a permanent res. - when I get my next passport, won't that be blank? Do I still need to get some kind of stamp from immigration? You know, the stamp that says I don't need a stamp... will have to look into this... I assume I'll have blank, virginal passport, since I've got my ID card...

You should carry both ur passports. the visa in ur old passport is still valid until it expires.unless the us embassy clips ur old passports which damages the visa page, ur visa can be used.

I don't have a visa any more, I'm a HK PR. My kid tho' needs to carry both cos she's not old enough for an ID card & the eligibility stamp is in the old p/p. Still, much simpler than a lot of countries.
