Actually, there's no Chinese consulate in HK as it's part of China. You need to go to China Travel. I've heard of visas being available at Lok ma Chau but I wouldn't risk it. I'm 99% sure they are not available for UK citizens. This is because Chinese people have a lot of difficulty getting into the UK apparently. There are China Travels in Sheung Wan, Central and Wan Chai. Very efficient.

Not in Lok Ma Chau. I tried it and was escorted back by Chinese immigration officers back to HK.

Thank you punter. Maemae and loyd, you can 100% get them in lo wu, I do it all the time . I am British, there are some nationalities it is not possible for though.

Armadillo. Are you a full British citizen (ie not BNO with 3 star HK permanent ID)? Where exactly do you get them at Lok Ma Chau? Can you remember the counter? I've got an Irish friend who was kicked out when he tried to do this. The authorities said he was British which made me laugh and him furious.

This is from the Chinese consulate in Edinburgh. It says British citizens must get visas before they travel to China. http://edinburgh.chineseconsulate.org/eng/zgqz/t213890.htm

Hi, i haven't tried at Lok Ma Chau either, I also tried many times at Lowu, I suspect not as that's more of a truck crossing. The office at the Lowu border tells me that they are actually the office where China Travel Services sends the passport to get the visa!

Hi Loyd, I am a full British citizen, in fact with no hkid. If you want a multiple entry visa, without HKID you must apply in your own country. However this is not in fact possible from the UK (cant quote for others) unless you are going on a cruise, therefore in and out of port every day.
In Lok Ma Chau it seems it is impossible to get a visa on entry, but in Lo Wu it is. I know it is also possible for Irish passports too, as I took a friend through a few months ago.
I can only imagine that your friend was trying to go through when the Olympics were on, because at that time it was impossible to get visas on entry for British (or Irish) among others...
In Lo Wu, the visa office is up a small set of escalators exactly opposite the foreigners immigration counter.
Hope this helps!

Hi, below is the link for Commisioner's office of China's Foreign Ministry in Hong Kong SAR where you can apply for Chinese Visa.
http://www.fmcoprc.gov.hk/eng/zgqz/bgfwxx/
The site contains other useful information about application process etc.
This was the one place where you could still apply and get long term business and visitor visas in 2008 during the time of Olympics provided you had adequte documentation with the application.
Please find this useful!

There is no visa office at Lok Ma Chau. You can only get SEZ 5 day visas at Lowu, and yes this can be done with a British Passport with or without HKID - remember to pay in RMB though.
If you have no HKID (or more correctly a valid HK resident visa) you can get a double entry visa at the China Resources building in Wanchai or via China Travel or one of the other numerous companies in HK that do visas, the main one I know is Forever Bright in New Mandarin Plaza, TST. If you do have a valid visa you should be able to get multi entry assuming you have had China visas previously.
