Working visa holder marrying mainland chinese
Posted by reuben (497 days ago)
i'm a holder of working visa and am going to marry a mainland chinese.
my question is:
1) what is the procedure, how long it would take for such move and,
2) would she be allowed to work in HK?
any advice would be highly appreciated,
reuben

Getting married is pretty easy, though you might have to do it on the Mainland unless your gf can get a travel pass to HK. Unfortunately she will not easily be able to join you. Unless you holds permanent residence in, say, the USA or Canada, she will be treated by HK authorities as yet another Mainlander and will have to wait in line a few years for the chance to move to HK on a permanent basis.

UH 20,
thanks for the informative reply. So, if she gets my citizenship - i'm neither US nor Canadian - would she be treated same as me? i thought the law was changed recently...however it probably not meant for mainland chinese!
anyways, thanks for the input,

She doesn't have to go as far as get your citizenship. If she can gain permanent residence in your country then she will be allowed to come to Hong Kong immediately.
