HK Visa and HK ID card

I am originally from Taiwan and had married to a Hong Kong resident. I'm finally received my visa from HK immigration and which visa required me to go back to Taiwan and re-enter to HK again. After re-entering to HK, I can apply for HK ID card and which takes about 3 weeks to process. My question is: Can I work before I got the ID card? or Can I start job hunting before I receive the ID card? or I have to wait till I received the ID card? Also, Do I have to renew the visa every one year? Thank for your help.

Yes, you can work as long as it is not against your visa conditions. The ID card itself is not related to your ability to work, although any work restrictions will be noted thereon. Whether you have to renew your visa every year I think you should open your passport and read what it says.

If it's a Dependant Visa, I think it's 1 year then 3 years then 3 years...depending on the immigration officer as well.

What "visa" did you receive......if a visitors' visa then you cannot work until you have authority from the HK Immigration Department; if you have a "work visa".....then by definition you have a job and an employer already........can you clarify?

Your ID card is an 'ad on' to your work permit......it is your work authorization that allows you to work not your ID card......so long as you have applied for the ID and it is in process, working under the terms of your visa is immediately permitted.

I have just resigned from my last job. My new employer is working on my visa (I was sponsored by my last employer and i quitted after working 3 months for him)
The new employer wants me to work immediately, I know it's against the immigration law as my last employer has informed the Immigration, but I need money in the meantime. Am I in high risk if i work in this period of time?

Thanks for the advices. I got the dependent visa and the immigration offer me for one year and they told me I can renew it.
