Dependet VISA for mother Posted by beersa (451 days ago) I am a permanent resident of HK and I have applied dependent visa for my mother. She is widow and 54 yrs old. According to Immig. policy the dependent mother's age should be 60 or above. After the looong processes(about 6 months), the IMMD refused the application and stated in the letter that they could not find the reason to justify for the exception of their existing policy. I am based in HKG and mother has to stay with me as she could not survive lonely on her native. (I am based in Hong Kong) Find what you are after in our Hong Kong A-Z Directory  Posted by TC (450 days ago) If she has medical reasons (as opposed to 'merely' financial reasons) for being dependent on you I suggest you get a doctor's letter stating the precise nature of her condition and why she is dependent on you. Where is she at the moment? I'm assuming that she is not in HK but you are. If that's the case then the ID might (apart from applying the letter of the law) be thinking that she's getting on without you at present (any other childrenwhere she is now?) so there's no need for them to bend the rules on your specific account. That was certainly the case with a friend of mine who applied on behalf of her father - there were other children he could stay with in their his home country even though they weren't his 'favorite child', so the application was declined. The IMMD officer replied that there is no financial reason but only the policy. My mother is in hongkong since november 2006, the VISA has been processed since then. After my father's demise, I would keep her with me to stay as her children are living in HK. I've wrote a letter stating that but still the appln is refused. I am applying for reconsideration but I have to produce some more strong documents to strengthen the application. Could anyone help or advise me what further steps could I take? There is not one reason you have written that would sway immigration here in HK or in many other countries. Your mother is still at working age, she doesn't require dependence on anyone and if she does then normally her home country / state would provide that. There are strict age rules for dependence for both children and parents, as far as immigration are concerned if she cannot live on her own at a working age then there is nothing to stop either you or your sister going back home to be with her. I know this sounds harsh but it is reality. (I am based in Hong Kong) Posted by beersa (450 days ago) I could not go back to home country coz I am aldy naturalize chinese and holding SAR passport. And my sis is living with her husband and their kids are here with them. Only my widowed mum has to go back and could not depend on herself. All our family is here and it is very hard her to go back to home country. I wonder Why the IMMD not showing any humanity on this case. I am in a weird contraption. Everyone would have a reason why their parents (under 60) or children (over 18) should be here over and above everyone else. In regard to your passport most nationalities allow their citizens to denounce their nationality to gain ability to get HKSAR passport, etc and allow you to get it back. Not likely to be approved if noted as such.
