working visa when in hk Posted by daypd2 (355 days ago) on the internet alot of places state you have to apply for a work visa b4 you arrive, why is this, and surely you can apply when you are there, how and where do you apply? can anyone help with this info please, thankyou (I am based in Hong Kong) Find what you are after in our Hong Kong A-Z Directory  Posted by bella_bella (354 days ago) your employer has to apply for the visa for you from the immigration department. you can find a job once you are here. but after you get your visa you will need to exit HK and come back in again to activate your visa. Not always the case - depends sometimes on the officer I think. One thing they frown on is a change to visa status when in HK - and if you arrive on a tourist visa and then change to a work visa they can look on it as the purpose of your initial visit was not tourism at all but looking for employment. Those advices you read on the internet are technically correct because you are supposed to have your work visa approved before entering HK.
