My wife is expecting a baby this december.
I am a Permanent Resident here in Hongkong while my wife is still a dependant to my status.
Is it possible that when the baby is born he could get a Hong Kong passport?
if so, would it be ok if he apply for a dual citizenship? our country of origin actually approve for a dual citizenship.
if not what would be his status of residency here in hongkong?
What is your nationality? If one of you is ethnic Chinese then yes you will be able to apply for HKSAR passport for the baby. If not then the answer is no.
Any babies born in HK are eligible to apply for Hong Kong Passport and HK Identity card. That's why so many mainland Chinese like to give birth in HK. It is also ok for him to apply for dual citizenship.
No, ethnic Chinese babies only. So if you have never lived in HK before, neither have your parents, grandparents...but your great-grandparents did, your baby will get the PR status the second he or she is born here. If your family has been here for 3 generations but you happen to be white (or anything except Chinese) then too bad - nothing.
