Can a company take back the bonus if you resign?

If a company has agreed to pay you a bonus and you resign before getting the money in your bank account, can the company change their mind and refuse to pay the bonus?

depends on your contract. in principle yes, i would say.


if it's a big company, you bet that they have their legal clauses sorted out accordingly. if it's a small company, good luck to sue them and get anything out of them

Agree with cookie.

It is generally a good idea to quit after the money is in the bank.

Although claw back is still possible after it is paid, it will be legally much more difficult, and companies usually do not bother.

ALL will depend on the Contract(s) arising in the employment; what were the “promises” from the employer to the employee?
