Hong Kong’s wealthy will find it harder to protect their assets and retain control of them following a landmark divorce case ruling that has sent ripples through the city’s booming family trust industry.
Thursday’s decision from Hong Kong’s Court of Final Appeal gave a businessman’s ex-wife the right to half of the trust fund that holds his engineering business, Analogue, as part of a $108.4m divorce settlement, instead of the one-third she had previously been awarded.
