China Visa update May 08
Posted by mrsmith (4 days ago)
me: perm resident with Aussie passport and 3 yr multi entry just expired.
action: went to the MFO in wanchai. could only get a double entry to shenzhen. if i want to go to dong guan or guangzhou will need return travel ticket like rail and a confirmed hotel reservation.
solutions: if you are a HK perm res you may get a letter for a department in china and a supporting letter from your hk employer and should be able to get a multi entry.
summary: business does not need to be this hard.

Is there any way to tell whether you have been given a Shenzhen visa or a visa valid for GZ?

The Hong Kong Government must act
I am a permanent HKID holder and run a business in Hong Kong.
My multi entry visa expired a month ago so I had to apply for a two entry visa, which I have now used.
Today when trying to apply for another two entry visa, I have been told that I must hold a hotel voucher and flight tickets before I can apply for a visa.
I normally go to China only for a day at a time, I travel by bus to Lok Ma Chau where a car picks me up, how the **** do I get confirmed travel ticket.

This situation is ridiculous because we lose our competitive edge. My overseas customers can get into China more easily than me as they have to fly in. If you want to stop terrorists hitting high profile spots, then you need to keep them out of your hotels and airliners. Duhhh!
It also devalues the HK ID card. Isn't that good enough security under one country two systems?
I feel sorry for Americans having to pay $1020 for a visa. But its not the money, but it's the hassle of applying.

Apply for the APEC travel card if you are a permanent resident in HK. Info on HK Government website... 3 Years visa free entry (to China for example) on accept.
I just applied; hope it solves it. (And no need for Visa to other countries in Asia as well....
- Check it out....

APEC Business Travel Card Scheme
The aim of the Scheme is to enhance the mobility of business travellers within the APEC economies for promotion of business within the region.
The Card is plastic and of the size of a credit card. It is normally valid for 3 years. The Card is good for multiple visits of 2 to 3 months to participating economies without visas.
Card holders will also enjoy streamlined immigration clearance at special lane at the control points of participating economies. When you travel to the APEC economies participating in the Scheme, you must bring along your valid national passport together with your APEC Business Travel Card in order to enjoy streamlined immigration clearance. In Hong Kong, Card holders will be allowed to use "resident" counters where available.

I read on the other thread, that the card was of little use after the current change in regulations

I am an APEC card holder. I am yet to get China entry with the card. I still need to use my 3 year china visa for entry.

Instead of reading the ridiculous reports in that dysfunctional paper (by the way they're really just reports and not more, with no research at all), I went to a big travel agency to find out for when our interpreters go to China with a European delegation.
Hotel reservation:
The first few nights' will suffice.
Ticket out of China:
If you're not flying, try a bus ticket from Shenzhen to Hong Kong. If you're flying, no problem.

Agree re APEC card - great idea but thwarted by inability of the PRC to implement it.

Hi Mr Smith,
I'm still a bit confused after reading the above. So if you are a HK perm res + foreign passport holder, can you still get a multi entry on producing a supporting letter from your hk employer like what you suggested in the first paragraph?
Many thanks

Landlord, i know that this was the case before April, but have you tried to get a multiple visa entry since then ?
btw, our office travel agency sent us a mail concerning the temporary suspension of both business and turism multiple entry visa....
