US Immigration Attorney in Singapore?

Does anybody know of a Singapore-based attorney specialising in US immigration laws? Or does anybody who has had similar experience offer me some advise?

I have consulted an attorney in the US but need a second opinion. I have a long-distance relationship with my boyfriend US for over a year and we have decided to move forward. For the first six months, I have been travelling back and forth to the US with no problems at all, staying 8-11 weeks at a time, never once overstaying my 90-day visa. 9 months ago, my student visa to the US was rejected under section 214(b). I have since found a job that allows me great flexibility - internet, laptop and a phone, and I can work from anywhere in the world. My B1/B2 application 2 months ago was approved; I was granted a 1-month visa to go visit my boyfriend.

Just one week ago, my application to spend a week in SF was rejected under section 214(b). I was appalled, the reason the gave me was that I am an intended immigrant. Which to me didn't make any sense, as I have shown I have a job, bachelor's degree, income and family commitments, and never overstayed my recent one-month visa. I further asked if my visa application for business purposes to the US will be affected, the consular office said yes. Now I am really pissed.

We consulted a lawyer in the US and he advised that I simply show up at US immigration checkpoint (without a visa), produce all my papers, and try to talk my way into letting me into the country. In the event that I get turned away and be put back on the plane, he said my next Visa application will not be affected. I find that hard to believe.

Also, we are considering the Fiancee Visa option, but it takes way too long (6 months??) to get approval. Can anybody recommend a there faster way? My boyfriend recommends that I take my chance at the US immigration checkpoint, and if they let me in, we get married within 2 months and convert my social visit visa to green card or spousal visa. Which sounds very appealing but not practical -- I need to travel to China once a month for work, and not sure if they will issue me the papers right away, and being a law-abiding Singapore citizen :), I am not sure of the consequences.

I am also thinking of re-applying again next month at the embassy, but I am 80% sure they are going to refuse me again, and having 3 rejections on my record might seem like I am really desperately trying to be an immigrant. I am just a woman in love, going where my heart takes me :) If it isn't for love, I really wouldn't be the least bit interested to live in the US. No offence, but Singapore's a great place to live in.

Anyone out there can help?

Both rejections for student and social visit visa -- the reason they gave was that I am "intended immigrant". I did not identify my boyfriend as fiance on both applications, although I honestly told them my boyfriend lives in Guam. Would you know if there is any difference in Guam / US mainland immigration laws? Thanks for your reply.

I hate to tell you this, but, an immigration lawyer will do nothing but advise you and take your money. he can do NOTHING for you when it comes to US immigration. Your best bet is to get into the US and get married. At that point you can file the paper work to become a resident. You will NOT BE PERMITTED to leave the US until your paper work is received and you have filed an application to leave the country. Can't remember the application number. While you are awaiting your adjustment of status, travel outside of the US is DISCOURAGED and FROWNED UPON.

You know what, send me a private message and we can continue the conversation. I am american and my husband is not, and I think I have been through just about everything.

Hi Life, thanks for your input. How long did it take for your husband to receive the paperwork to become a resident? Can I travel freely within the US while waiting for the paperwork? I don't know how to send you a private message within this forum page, so please send me an email idacaptain@yahoo.com.sg Thanks for your help, appreciate it.

Hello capitan, Not sure why your applications was turn down. But if you do have any criminal records it's a no no to the US Immigrations..

No criminal records other than I chew gum sometimes :), and I'm holding a Singapore passport. The only mistake I made was being truthful - I applied for a student visa after being back and forth to the US last year for a period of 6 months, and I told the consular officer I had a boyfriend who lives there. And they assumed I was an "intended immigrant" and rejected my recent visitor's visa application. What baffles me is why they approved my visit to Guam (a US territory, Pacific Island) for one month in July, and rejected my 1-week application for San Fran 2 month later.

chewing gum.. you shouldn't have done that!!

You are right sometimes to be honest, you go no where..

Now you may never get the visa again, not till you get get married and move to the US.

For you information, Singaporean don't need visa for the US up to 3 months. They don't have to give any reason on why they rejected your visa applications..
