Yes. If you want to do it at home, see if you can buy a kind of junior forensic scientist kit from a toy shop. Or get the graphite from a pencil (not the coloured ones) and grind it up very finely. Brush it on with a clean blusher brush, gently blow away excess and cover with clear tape. But don't think either way will hold up in court...

Not particularly and it's quite a common procedure but the people that do it are all trained experts.

Ninhydrin was commonly used in school biology labs until it was banned (cancer causing).


You simply spray it on and wait for it to dry and a pink fingerprint appears. So even a 16 year old school student could detect fingerprints left on paper.
