Depending on what you are looking for, I'd try my hardest to go to a Chinese hospital rather than one of the JVs -- there are several that specialize in women's issues, and a few which do have some English-speaking docs (RuiJin hospital and the one in Xujiahui come to mind). Of course, if you can speak Mandarin, it opens up a lot, and there should be one in your neighborhood. In my experience, the JVs tend to hire on the basis of language ability much more than doctoring... It's a totally different experience at a Chinese hospital, though, and one that isn't for everyone, but at least here in Shanghai, the quality of treatment can be very, very good.
