I'm not in front of my Mac, but I think if you open up the "System Preferences --> Network" control panel, there is an option that you can check to turn auto disconnect off. If you can't find it, I'll check my Mac tonight and advise where it is.

Have you checked the PPPoE Options on the PPPoE tab in the Network window. Session-something opens.

Uncheck the box next to "Prompt to stay connected if idle for X minutes"... I think (it's been a while).
